The obvious answer to my headline question appears to be tied to events on the Garry Stevens' Forum that took place during the middle of last year.
It was in 2019 when a mounting crisis began to cause a chain reaction which led to an obvious split within the Garry Stevens' Forum, that divided its participants into two camps. The trigger mechanism causing this division was the increasing participation by one individual who is a member of 'The Trio' that I am working with.
The two camps can be described as those who supported the status quo (the majority), and a small faction led primarily by one individual, who was part of 'The Trio' who is trying to uncover the true story about the events that led up to the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964. At first, Garry Stevens remained neutral, and then he drifted to supporting the smaller group via a series of emails. Garry Stevens went so far as to call those who opposed continuing research, nothing more than trolls.
Well these 'trolls' who would not discuss the issues, and especially the core issue that Ronan O'Rahilly was a fraud because he had built his reputation upon being nothing more than being a paid spin-doctor with the job of promoting lies and deceit as an alternative explanation for the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964, then revived another Forum which Garry Stevens immediately branded as 'The Joke Board'. Since supporters of both Garry Stevens' Forum and this 'Joke Board' used multiple pseudonyms to cover their true identities, a certain amount of posting by the same people continued on both Boards. But when the 'Joke Board' began attacking Garry Stevens personally, he then went further and branded them as the 'Church of Caroline'.
The focal point of this split involved a quasi-religious doctrine, just like one of the 'New Age' groups of the Seventies, which in a sense was fitting, because at one time they had gathered around an idiotic cult mantra called 'Loving Awareness'. This group contained members who volunteered to preserve a former radio ship called 'Ross Revenge'. The former fishing ship had become a hulk, because it did not have a working engine. In the 1980s it became the home of a station which adopted the name of 'Radio Caroline', even though it had no connection to the original twin stations called Radio Caroline that broadcast offshore from 1964 to 1967 from two ships. One of those ships, the original motor vessel 'Caroline', was eventually scrapped, and the other ship gradually sank after its rusted out hull could no longer resist the water that surrounded it.
Sensing a need to link the Radio Caroline stations of 1964-1967, to a newly licenced (by the UK government), very small (1kW) community station that also called itself 'Radio Caroline', its supporters/followers seem to have adopted a sort-of Dan Brown idea. They turned Ronan O'Rahilly into the de facto high priest of their 'Church of Caroline' by claiming that his 'bloodline' was the fluid that connected all of the ages. This idea actually contradicted a statement by O'Rahilly where he had claimed that a licence for 'his' 'Radio Caroline' would only be obtained over his 'dead body'.
But since O'Rahilly has dementia of such an advanced stage that he cannot verbally communicate with anyone and spends his time sitting in his garden when the weather and his carer permit him to do so, O'Rahilly for all purposes other than his own biological survival, no longer exists, and when he did exist, he told lies, for pay.
So instead of O'Rahilly, another character named Malcolm Smith, who calls himself Peter Moore, managed to get the hulk called 'Ross Revenge', turned over to him. Together with a UK licence for a tiny community station that he calls 'Radio Caroline', he uses the hulk as a rallying point for his own followers. These are the followers that Garry Stevens called the 'Church of Caroline'.
Well things got so heated that Garry Stevens told the trolls to go to the 'Joke Board; and stay there. At the same time he made a member of 'The Trio' one of his Administrators. During this same period of time Paul Rusling was engaging with 'The Trio' by reading their newsletters and even visiting with the person that Garry Stevens had made his Administrator.
Then suddenly, quite suddenly, within the course of a few hours on one day in 2019, Garry Stevens reached an accord with Malcolm Smith and stopped all questions about the legitimacy of Smith's small volunteer radio station. Stevens then turned against 'The Trio'. He never offered one word of explanation.
It was at that moment in time and just as suddenly, that Paul Rusling popped-up with news about his book "The Radio Caroline Bible'. Knowing that 'The Trio' had been tipped-off about his theft of intellectual property, Rusling tried to reach an accord.
But since Rusling was also in bed with Malcolm Smith in order to create the lie in print that his tiny little radio station and his "rusting hulk" were connected to the original Radio Caroline, that accord was impossible.
Tomorrow I will tell you about why this search for information got underway in 2014, the story behind a book that 'The Trio' had planned to publish in 2015, which has now become a project involving a succession of new books, rather than just one. They will join others aimed at the academic market which are already in print.
