I receive many more abusive comments that are deleted before they ever appear Online, which makes me wonder why the people who take the time to write these insane comments, and must know that will never be read, bother to write them in the first place.. This brings me to this Review and to my comments of yesterday.
No matter how much evidence I reveal to these abusers, they seem set on the idea that this project is the work of one person when the evidence over the years proves that it is not, and not only that, but they then claim that this trio that I work with has never published anything a all, even though the evidence is available for all to see.
However, since I began this blog, the health crisis now officially been branded as a pandemic which now begun to interfere with my ability to write this Review. There is also the question of I can write this Review without revealing new information that may also be stolen.
Therefore, a new and serious publishing plan is being put into action whereby that information will be released as part of the continuing academic series. No doubt the same people who refuse to read the earlier academic work, will now refuse to read the new work by pretending that it does not exist.
Someone asked me about uploading new content and giving away research that could then be stolen. So the logical thing to do is pause a moment because that time in this Review has been reached where the real story behind Radio Caroline (1964-1967) either has to be told, or I simply avoid revealing the real story, and I just debunk the absolute rubbish in Rusling's 'bible'.

In answer to one person who is sending silly posts about me to other Forums, I usually write my next blog several hours before it is posted here, but your silly comments will be deleted and never put on line.
Although Paul Rusling switches topics on page 14 from the birth of '208' to the birth of the creation of ITA (another subject that Rusling does not understand at all); it is necessary to plunge even deeper into the subject of the commercial rebirth of Radio Luxembourg following the end World War II. But it comes with a caveat that I need to address in this edition of my ongoing blog.
In addition to the transcribed pre-'208' broadcasts by Herbert W. Armstrong on 'Radio Luxembourg I' (as the Long Wave service became known for a short time), and the transcribed broadcasts by Alan Freed; there were several other persons who all became key players in the story behind the first ITA franchises, and then the 1964 birth of Radio Caroline.
Although Rusling has set himself up as the 'expert' in the story of Radio Caroline, his 'expertise' about the creation of Radio Caroline was derived by him from plagiarized material which he did not and still does not understand. Perhaps he will after reading this Review, but that comes with this note of caution to him from me, to which I also want to draw your attention!
Paul Rusling has issued more than one version of the text of his 'bible' under the pretext that he is only issuing additional printings in two different formats (hardback and softback) of the same book. However, not only the layout of the hardback and softback versions differ; but so does the actual text that Rusling has used in his 'bible'. He has previously sent out extracts of the printed sections of his book that do not correspond with related sections that have also been issued by him.
It is also noted that Paul Rusling has stated that he will no longer be printing (and therefore selling) the softback edition that I am currently reviewing, once his present print-on-demand orders have been depleted. Therefore, as a caveat to my readers: if ANY of the material you are currently reading in my Review begins to appear in new editions of Rusling's 'bible' (see dates of each day's blog at the top of each page of my continuing Review), it will serve as prima facie evidence that Rusling's copyright violations by way of plagiarism, are continuing.
Because Paul Rusling does not comprehend the story of Radio Caroline, he does not understand the significance of the material that he has stolen. Therefore, although Paul Rusling was a recipient of the copyrighted 'Caroline Investigation' newsletter upon which he attempted to base his own "biblical" storyline; his refusal to read history books and/or perform his own research, has resulted in publication of his "biblical" storyline that does not make sense.
The problem for readers of Rusling's 'bible' is that if they are not already well-versed in this subject, then Rusling will only assist in cementing-into-place that which they think that they know about the birth of Radio Caroline, and therefore they will never come to understand that what they think that they 'know', they don't know at all! I realize that this may seem to be getting very complicated, and even to be delving into the proverbial 'splitting of hairs', but as you are about to learn, that which Rusling has omitted provides an understanding of why it was necessary for him to repeat previous fiction about Radio Caroline: while attempting to incorporate new material which he has stolen.
But in the instance of Radio Caroline, his mixture of myth and reality clash against other; they are not compatible at all. Thus, Rusling's 'bible' is far from being a true account of anything other than his own foibles, as this edition of my blog will begin to reveal, but it required me to lay down this foundation about why his missing information is important, just as his mythology is unimportant.
Please keep in mind that Rusling is not attempting to actually tell his paying readers the real story of Radio Caroline. Paul Rusling has formed a working arrangement with a man named Malcolm Smith. This relationship is revealed in Rusling's own words in his 'bible'.
It was Malcolm Smith who calls himself 'Peter Moore' who has laid legal claim to what is now the rusting hulk (by definition), of the ship that is pictured on the cover of Rusling's book. The new owner of that hulk is also in charge of the limited company registered in England, that operates a small, regional community radio station that has been licensed by the government of the United Kingdom, and adopted 'Radio Caroline' as its name.
This relatively new venture has no connection to the Radio Caroline twin stations that once operated from two ships between the years of 1964 and 1967, and the same is true of the rusting hulk that is known as 'Ross Revenge'. That is the vessel that is pictured on the cover of Rusling's 'bible'. However, the purpose of Rusling's book is to convince his paying readers that there is a connection.
Consequently Rusling found it necessary to convince his paying readers that a lot of proverbial 'square pegs' do fit into a lot of his 'round holes'. To perform this sleight-of-hand, Paul Rusling had to 'shave the truth', as I will begin to reveal in my ongoing Review.
Without informing his readers about British broadcasting developments immediately following the end of World War II in 1945, there is no way that Rusling's readers can ever comprehend the how and why in 1964, Radio Caroline came on the air. What is missing from the text of Rusling's 'bible' is information that reveals how several different strands of the same story originated in different geographical locations, and then came together in the year Nineteen Sixty Four.
That missing information is what I will begin to reveal in tomorrow's blog.
We now turn from page 13 to page 14, and in the opening paragraph a claim is made without qualification that "Chinese interests" own a 100kW station that is currently broadcasting from Mexico into California, USA. If we are generous and allow the author of that claim an "escape clause", we could admit that if those same "Chinese interests" were Mexican nationals of Chinese ancestry, then Rusling's statement would be true. However, the Government of Mexico does not allow foreign nationals to own its stations.
The original purpose and activities of those stations was long ago consigned to the past, and here I can write with first-hand knowledge.
The core trio I am working with to create my Review, once had plans to use a Mexican 'border-blaster' known as XERF at Ciudad Acuña, which owned a restored 250kW RCA transmitter. It was part of a project in the 1980s that was inspired and promoted by Don Pierson, who in 1964 created a station called 'Wonderful Radio London' which began broadcasting from a ship anchored off the coast of south-east England.
The new plan by Don Pierson, with his original Station Manager Ben Toney at the helm, was to begin leasing time incrementally over XERF and broadcast to the USA as 'Radio London, America'. Unfortunately a dispute began over the format. Originally WRLI was to be a CHR ('Contemporary Hit Radio') station, but economics steered this Texas project towards Country music, while others wanted it to play oldies for which commercial sponsorship was non-existent. Here are the PAMS jingles (click to play) that were made for the oldies version.
Then, as a follow-up these shows would be syndicated over other USA radio stations, and finally, a new ship-based project called 'WRLI' (Wonderful Radio London International), and a sister station called 'VFG' (Voice of the Free Gospel), would begin transmitting programs to the United Kingdom. That was the plan which was then put into motion when Ben Toney and Mervyn Hagger went to Del Rio, Texas (directly across the US-Mexico border of Ciudad Acuña, Mexico), to conclude a contract with the U.S. agent for XERF.
The involvement with XERF was quite extensive, and it led to plans that would have turned its broadcasting hours after midnight into transmissions of 'Radio London, America', while still giving English and Spanish station identifications as being transmissions via XERF. This was required by the laws governing broadcasts originating in Mexico; even when the programming originated from outside of Mexico. You can hear the beginnings of this entire plan being put into operation via a combined and back-to-back recording of the first and second broadcasts over XERF which began on Monday, August 13, 1984:
In addition to this information about the 'border-blasters' from Mexico, I have access to other documents relating the 'WRLI' related venture. It eventually morphed into an academic research project involving radio and television programs, newspaper articles, and various monographs.
Here is Genie Baskir in 1985; a core member of the trio that has been involved with this project since its inception. Genie is shown with co-anchor Jeff Houston, in the Texas studio of the 4FTN ('Four Freedoms Television Network'), which was a successor in research interest to the original ideas promoted by Don Pierson.
On page 14 (softback) of his book, Paul Rusling uses the reference to 'border-blasters' to launch into a discussion about the history of Radio Luxembourg with quick references to both the BBC and GPO. Since I have already covered the subject of both the BBC and its relationship to the GPO, and the GPO's relationship to the Crown as a corporation sole, I will not repeat it here.
However, by quickly glossing over the history of Radio Luxembourg, Paul Rusling misses several key elements that later manifest themselves in the history and development of offshore commercial broadcasting to the British Isles in the Nineteen Sixties. The first element that he avoided was the first manifestation of Herbert W. Armstrong in 1953 over the European airwaves via the longwave transmissions of the original Radio Luxembourg.
The second key element that Rusling does not refer to concerns the bone-fide transmissions over Radio Luxembourg on Saturday nights by Alan Freed. These shows were transcribed from WINS in New York City during 1956, and Mervyn Hagger was a devout listener. He accredits to Alan Freed his interest in both the excitement generated by Freed's style of personality presentation on radio, and Freed's promotion of authentic rock 'n' roll music which motivated Hagger to begin buying Freed promoted songs on 78 rpm discs at his local department store.
Freed called himself "Mister Rock 'n' Roll" and claimed that he had popularized the term as a substitute for 'Rhythm and Blues', but some called him the "King" with good reason. It was Freed who promoted the multi-racial enjoyment of rock 'n' roll music, and Freed ushered in the age of rock 'n' roll cameo presentations that became the forerunner of music videos.
Alan Freed spoke out against the violence depicted in 'Blackboard Jungle', while his own films were packaged into a harmless spate of motion pictures depicting teenagers having fun without violence. These movies were shown on cinema screens throughout the British Isles and they paved the way for his radio show on '208'.
In the end, it was the political and criminal aspects of the people that Freed associated himself with that brought about his demise which ended in the so-called 'payola' scandal. Sadly, Alan Freed died rather ignominiously without fanfare in Los Angeles; shortly before 'Beatlemania' crashed on to the American airwaves.
Because Rusling changes topic to the start of Independent Television in the UK on his next page (15), I will end today's blog here.
Hopefully, the Internet will not crash, and no more weird developments transpire overnight in what seems to be a real-to-life sci-fi horror movie that we are all currently living through. That being the case, I will present the latest edition to my Review here at this address, tomorrow!

It is possible to write a new chapter just to correct the bucket-loads of baloney created at every turn of a Rusling page, and the beginning of his Chapter 2 on his page 13 (softback) is no exception to that opportunity.
There are so many mistakes in Rusling's 'bible' that to correct them all would result in a book that is longer in length than Rusling's original volume. Therefore my Review has to zero-in on the more problematical parts of his writings, which translated into practical terms means those parts that are so misleading that they cry-out for attention.
The title of his Chapter 2 is 'Commercial Radio Arrives', and in its opening paragraph Rusling begins by misleading his readers about Captain Leonard Plugge and his broadcasting company. It seems that in the first mention of this entity that Rusling is too lazy to bother to look up its name, and so he opts for what he thinks are its initials.
But either Rusling's eyesight, or his hearing, or his memory is not very good, because by whatever means he thinks that his mind obtained the name of Plugge's operation; either his senses, or his memory, or both, were not functioning properly. Consequently his readers are told by Rusling that Plugge formed a company that was simply called "IBS".
The problem is that it wasn't: it was the 'International Broadcasting Company' or 'IBC'.
However, in order to explain why Leonard Plugge set out to create a rival to the British Broadcasting Corporation, which emerged in 1927 from the wreckage of 1926 that was caused by the GPO to its predecessor the British Broadcasting Company Limited, it is necessary to refer back to the powers of the GPO once again. The original BBC company was formed in 1922 by mandate of GPO who also opened the door to the hiring of its managing director John Reith.
Now in order to explain why Leonard Plugge saw an opportunity to set himself up as a counterweight to John Reith, we have to explain more than just the passing reference given by Rusling at the bottom of his preceding page 12.
However, back in 2004, Gilder and Hagger had written an article titled: 'John Reith and the Feudal Values of British Broadcasting in a Modern Age.' It was published by the 'University of Bucharest Review', (issue: 01 / 2006 and pages 135 to 142), to which Rusling has had access.
The academic research work of Gilder and Hagger has been cumulative, meaning that questions they asked were answered by more questions. Since everything that the team of Gilder, Hagger and Baskir has been transparent, they even created a site explaining their methodology and its resulting series of endless questions which you can still read at http://yesterversity.com/YesterVersity-5.html
It begins with this headline: "More answers result in more questions", and it begins with this quotation: "We never stop investigating ... Every question we answer leads on to another question." Those are the words of Desmond Morris found in his 1967 best-seller, 'The Naked Ape'. All of this is part of a project called 'YesterStudies' beginning at http://yesterversity.com/
This process of cumulative writing has not come without problems, because it has become a delaying factor which has prevented the completion of a volume called 'Yesterday Never Happened: Dial 999 for Caroline'. However, as previously noted, a promotional video was created and it has been available for some time Online at http://radiocaroline.info
Therefore the information that Gilder, Hagger and Baskir had in 2004 about the GPO; BBC and John Reith that was published in 2006, has been superseded by their own writings in a series of documents that began in 2001 with a publication called 'London: My Hometown' (Gilder); and which have continued to this day.
Part of that research process involved publishing an email newsletter called 'Caroline Investigation', and one of its recipients was Paul Rusling. Another outlet was on 'Facebook' which also hosts a 'Caroline Investigation' page, but both the newsletter and 'Facebook' pages became dormant when others such as Brian Lister and now Paul Rusling began to use copyrighted research material by Gilder, Hagger and Baskir, as a means of disseminating their own distorted self-promoting plagiarized works for their own commercial purposes.
In their 2004 article (published in 2006), and beginning on page 136, we read that: "After Reith migrated to England, he answered an advertisement seeking a general manager for the British Broadcasting Company, Ltd. In 1922 this enterprise had been forced into existence by the British General Post Office (GPO) in order to create a commercial monopoly."
Moving on we read that: "While the GPO was under the control of Parliament, it owed its point of origination to powers delegated to it by the institution responsible for the Royal Mail that had been created under a Royal Prerogative." The next section which is described by the authors as a "murky chain" was clarified by one of their later works that was accepted for publication on September 8, 2015, by Hypercultura (ISSN 2285-2115) and titled 'The British Interregnum: a yesterday that never happened.'
In their monograph 'John Reith and the Feudal Values of British Broadcasting in a Modern Age', Gilder and Hagger wrote: "Beginning in 1869, Parliament began to reach back in time to build upon a convoluted series of existing laws that gave the General Post Office authority over the sending and receiving of written and printed correspondence. In that year GPO authority was extended to wired communication by telegraph and in 1904, it was further extended by an Act of Parliament to incorporate wireless telegraphy."
These monographs have always been very exact and precise and this one was no exception because it included the following descriptive application of the Wireless Telegraphy Act to mean that: "no person shall establish a wireless telegraph station; build a wireless telegraph station, install equipment at a wireless telegraph station or use equipment at a wireless telegraph station for the purpose of sending or receiving a signal for wireless telegraphy, without first obtaining a license from the Postmaster General."
This same article about Reith continues with these words: "The feudal historical theory behind these Acts is that the method of transmittal of information is not at issue; the transmission of information by any means is, being the domain of the Post Office and ultimately the Crown. At one time, this included the licensing of the printers and publishers of books and newspapers.
That monopoly originally enforced copyright control with the right to copy being subject to licensing and owed its origin to the Catholic Church Index of prohibitive works. Copyright licensing in England was originally intended to serve as an arm of Crown censorship enforcement but this authority was eventually transferred to the authors of the works to be copied.
When microphones were added to telegraph wires to create the telephone, the exchanges were interpreted as being “electronic Post Offices” and therefore within the domain of the GPO. When “modern” wireless telephony became possible this same premodern logic was applied, although it was later questioned because telegraphs and telephones served individuals while wireless telegraphy and telephony had a broadcast effect.
Administration of these electronic means of communication also came under the jurisdiction of the Committee of Imperial Defence, which had been created by Prime Minister Arthur Balfour in 1904 at the time of the Wireless Telegraphy Act. This Committee was formed by representatives from the Admiralty, War Office, Air Ministry, Treasury, India Office, Foreign Office, Colonial Office, Board of Trade and the General Post Office."
These monographs are very detailed, very precise and well documented. However, to avoid confusion in this Review, I have removed all referrals to the footnotes - which you can find in the original article that is Online and free to read.
In my preceding blog I referred to the creation of the General Electric Company; Radio Corporation of America and Electric and Musical Industries. You can find more detailed information about these entities in the Reith monograph on both pages 138 and 139, and in their accompanying footnotes.
In the last third of the text on page 139 you can read this sub-heading: 'Plugging Reith: NOT!' It is about Captain Leonard Plugge, MP and his International Broadcasting Company: IBC. If you want to read the real story about the rival stations created prior to WWII, I suggest you read this article because it contains information that you won't learn from the Rusling regalia of rubbish!

When we left off yesterday, we were on page 12 of Paul Rusling's eponymous 'bible' with its "poke in the eyes" of Christian theologians.
His 'bible' brings to mind this verse of Matthew 18:6. It is taken from the book that Rusling's endorser refers to as the 'Holy Bible' and a mere companion work to Rusling's own work:
"If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."
While I am not directly nor indirectly advocating or implying any authoritarian belief or interpretative meaning as a result of reproducing those words; taken at their face value as just words on a page quoted from the New International Version of Hans Knot's 'Holy Bible', they do offer some form of light-hearted mirth for readers of Rusling 'bible'.
One can picture a vision of Paul Rusling sinking beneath his own waves of text upon which floats his eponymous radio ship. Rusling is drowning in penance to the deceived "little ones" who have come to him to learn about Radio Caroline (1964-1967, RIP), but who Rusling has caused to "stumble" in their understanding of the history of Radio Caroline.
Now, if you are getting rather 'ticked-off' by reading my citations of several biblical verses as part of this Review: blame Rusling for calling his work a 'bible', and blame his own promoter Hans Knot for comparing Rusling's work to the 'Holy Bible'. But is is the very nature of the self-serving and hypocritically sanctimonious Paul Rusling that "takes the cake" for having the gall; the effrontery, to claim that his work of plagiarism mixed with his own contrived rubbish, is in some ways an account of the true history of 'Radio Caroline', because it is not.
Beginning with the next page of his 'bible', Rusling begins to break into a gallop as he recites his version of how commercial radio broadcasts directed at the British Isles in the English language began on the continent of Europe before WWII. However, since Rusling has now adopted the outline of a Steve Martin joke whereby a question is raised, but instead of providing the answer, Rusling uses the Steve Martin 'trick' of glossing over the answer which is 'Point Number One', and instead, he rushes ahead with 'Point Number Two' that explains the application of 'Point Number One' that he never explained.
It is best that you listen to this Steve Martin skit yourself, if you have never heard it before, so that you understand the confidence trick that Paul Rusling is trying to pull off in his 'bible'. Steve Martin makes the claim that "You can be a millionaire and never pay taxes." The idea is that you hear that you can be a millionaire, and as far as the paying taxes are concerned, well you reason that you may, or may not pay taxes, but you want to know how you can become a millionaire. With baited breath you await Steve Martin's explanation:
Of course this is a comedy routine, but Paul Rusling is using that same manipulative, but abbreviated form of verbiage to spin his own fanciful tale to paid-up gullible readers. Therefore, I think that this is the point in the Review where I should now insert another reference to a previously published academic work by Gilder and Hagger.
I do so because you might be tempted to simply gloss over it.
Yet this article, which is part of a series of previously published and related monographs, does explain in detail the foundation of both how and why the General Post Office came by its powers of censorship. Without its creation there would never have been a need for extraneous commercial broadcasting services directed towards listeners inside the British Isles.
This article was published in the University of Bucharest Review Vol. XII, no. 2, in 2010 - nine years before Rusling's 'bible', and it is an article that Rusling was well aware of before he rushed ahead to create his plagiarized work. Being an academic and not a commercial work, it of course has a somewhat convoluted title based upon the guidelines set by the editors of the journal: "I Started a Joke. Text, Cotext, Context: The rouge rendering of 'Piracy' as a vexed legal construct over time and place."
Now you know why you never read this academic article before!
But beginning on page 45 of the Journal in which the article appears, the text gets into the original applications of both piracy and copyrights. Then it delves into the story of "book burning" as referenced in Hans Knot's 'Holy Bible'. It appears within its sub-book of 'Acts'; chapter 19, and verse 19. On page 47 in the footnotes section of the journal in which the article appears, there are details of how Benito Mussolini created the Vatican State.
On page 49 and with detailed references in accompanying footnotes, you can read the following paragraph:
"Even though the Holy See was ultimately the motivation for the creation of major universities (see footnote 52) which produced political leadership, the Holy See had documents that it wanted to conceal from scrutiny. But for those who have taken the time to look, they find that the Holy See no longer hides the origins of its bogus temporal authority (see footnote 53). Its political charade began with fraudulent claims derived from the bogus 'Donation of Constantine' when Emperor Constantine was alleged to have given the western half of the Roman Empire to Pope Sylvester I. This mythology lasted for centuries (see footnot 54), and even after its exposure, it was still being claimed by some, which led John Calvin to debunk it again in his 'Institutes' (see footnote 55)."
If you are prepared to read the entire text of that published 2010 article, you will also find companion articles that address related matter in a thoroughly documented manner. But if you are like Paul Rusling, you will yawn and claim that you have no time for research nor for the reading of history books!
So although I have not progressed today beyond page 12 of Rusling's work of theft, confusion and abuse of his commercial readership, I have provided you with the information that you need in order to verify that what you are being told by way of my Review, is the truth as previously documented and verified by means of peer review in academic journals, and then reported on these pages by me.
Please note: Because the worldwide pandemic has begun to encroach on my own normal movements, it may impinge upon my own need to access reference materials from the shelves of our own library. Because of a silly comment already received, I need to clarify that it is not my ability to access library materials that may become a problem, it is because what I consider to be absurd measures that France is now taking, and if they are applied to my location, it is possible that I would not be physically permitted to retrieve books and papers that I may need. At the present time that is still not a problem. However, in future days I may, or may not be able to continue with this Review on a daily basis. As things stand, and as of this writing and this publication today, that is not a problem. Therefore my next blog should appear sometime tomorrow as planned.
We begin by picking-up from where we left-off yesterday on Rusling's page 11.
After referencing RCA, without mentioning Marconi of Chelmsford, in Essex, England, he now wants to tell his readers all about Marconi and its hut in Writtle that became the changing room for a local school's sports' activities. Then, years later, someone 'rescued' that hut after the school had abandoned it, and they moved it inside a protective museum building at the site of a former waterworks in Chelmsford.
According to the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society, "the famous England footballer Geoff Hurst was one who used it in the 1950s." Another person who used it is Paul Byford. He became well known to the U.K. Radio Investigation Service for his unlicensed transatlantic broadcasting activities.
Because Mr. Byford attended the school which used the hut where he, and a lot of other boys, used to change out of their perspiration-ridden sports' garb; for nostalgic reasons, and being a good tour host, he once took Mervyn Hagger on a tour of the Sanford Mill (Chelmsford) facility to look at that now restored hut. You can see a picture of at:
Paul Rusling would like you to think that he knows all about this same hut which was once used for a broadcasting station in the little village of Writtle just outside Chelmsford. Alas, he does not, and neither does know much about Marconi and its entanglement with a massive worldwide communications project that failed and almost put the company out of business. That did place the company in a vulnerable position during 'The Great War' which was later re-branded as World War I.
It was during that time that American Marconi had control of ship-to-shore radio, and this made the U.S. Navy very nervous. At that time, the UK was viewed in the USA as a military threat, and consequently the activities of American Marconi were brought under the control of the U.S. Navy.
It was after WWI that the 'fun' began because the U.S. Navy did not want to hand the company back to American Marconi. So in partnership with the recently created conglomerate known as the General Electric Company Inc., a subsidiary company of G.E. was created under the name of the Radio Corporation of America, and RCA then gobbled up American Marconi. So let's now turn from Rusling's page 11, to Rusling's page 12 (softback original edition.)
On this page you are supposed to learn all about the creation of the British Broadcasting Company Limited (BBC), by the General Post Office (GPO). But since Rusling does not understand the subject himself, he cannot be expected to tell his paying readers anything of value that they may not already know. He can tell them more in terms of his "radio realm of rubbish", and that he does quite well.
In the second paragraph of his page 12, Rusling delves into the world that occupied the mind of Professor Asa Briggs in writing his 'History of Broadcasting in the United Kingdom' ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Broadcasting-United-Kingdom-Birth/dp/0192129260 ). It stretched over many volumes because it included a vast collection of documented footnotes. By comparison, Rusling does not bother with documentation because to do so would reveal his sources as being the plagiarized (and mangled) work of other people taken without permission.
Rusling tries to shrug all this off by claiming on page 5 in his second paragraph of his Introduction that: "It's a story of intrigue and mystery, one that the Caroline team (sic) have had to deliberately mask in places to protect those who didn't want their identities, nor the reasons for the radio station, (sic) to be exposed." This is how Rusling uses deceit to tell his readers that there is one radio station called 'Radio Caroline' and it has a continuing history. In reality Radio Caroline had two stations and it existed from 1964 to 1967, but a lot of pretenders have come along and called their ventures by the same name. They are not related and the Radio Caroline has been dead for decades! But using a claim of camouflage, Rusling tries to excuse himself from the need to document anything that he claims within his work of fiction called 'The Radio Caroline bible'.
This lack of understanding by Paul Rusling about the subject of radio broadcasting history is made manifest when he tries to explain in his second paragraph on page 12 how and why the GPO got involved and which he then links to "The Crown". (sic) This garbled and confused explanation which is central to all that follows, is then spilled over into his next (third) paragraph on this same page.
Because Rusling refuses to study history, Rusling has no idea of what the United Kingdom is, or how it came into existence, or who brought about its creation. Instead, Rusling refers to "The Crown" (sic) as "a mysterious and nebulous body which had different powers depending on the context." (sic) Then Rusling continues with: "The Monarch (sic) is the figurehead of The Crown, (sic) which permits a parliament (sic) to administer day to day affairs of state." (sic)
Ready for more Rusling rambling as he attempts to explain to his readers what obviously does not understand himself? Like it or not, Rusling is going to deliver more of the same, because it is all that he has to use as a confidence trick to deprive readers of money to buy this drivel: "The biggest group of elected members usually form the Government (sic) but The Crown (sic) remains in charge of the monarchy and the government." (sic)
Paul Rusling brings to mind that quotation from the New International Version of 'The Bible' as cited in 1 Timothy 1:7 "They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm."
What a hoot!
Rusling is slain by his own words in a book that he calls the 'bible', and which his pal Hans Knot endorses on its back cover with these words: "It is often said that the Holy Bible belongs in every bookcase; the Radio Caroline bible should be on the bookshelf and read often by every follower of the world's most famous offshore radio station."
What a nerve Rusling and Knot have. They seem to forget these words from Knot's recommended bookcase storage: "Woe to you, teachers of the law .... you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a a single convert, and when he becomes one. you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are." (Matthew 23:15; New International Version.)
This is certainly true of the supporters that Malcolm Smith has gathered around his very tiny and unrelated licensed station called 'Radio Caroline'. They are as fierce and as ignorant as any religious cult member, and Hans Knot has definitely linked the idea that Paul Rusling's 'bible' and the book that Hans Knot refers to as the 'Holy Bible' are of equal weight, and both should be lifted off the bookshelf to be studied on a regular basis.
However, quoting again from those two passages referred to by Hans Knot as the 'Holy Bible', it is clear that ".... they do not know what they are talking about ...." and that they are hypocrites who do "travel over land and sea" to win converts by means of their tiny broadcasting emissions and supporting words in print.
But to the facts.
What is 'The Crown' to which Rusling refers, and where do you suppose he partially lifted his partial understanding of his partial self-education from?

The entity that Rusling calls 'The Crown' is known in legal parlance as a corporation sole. There many entities of this type but the British version has a rather convoluted and mangled history based upon a fraud known as the 'Donation of Constantine'. The British, or rather the English version, began with King Henry VIII who in turn got it from the Papacy in Rome.
Henry VIII ruled according to the mythology whereby Roman Emperor Constantine (who has connections to York in England), supposedly bequeathed the Western half of his Roman Empire to Pope Sylvester. This allowed the Pope to wear two hats: one 'spiritual' (representing his church), and the other 'temporal' representing "his half" of the Roman Empire.
When Henry VIII did his split with Rome, he took with him this same contrived legal fraud, and that is what has been extended to the Kingdom Scotland and to the Kingdom of Ireland which are now rolled up and into the United Kingdom. That of course is sans most of Ireland, because the majority of its people had the sense to get rid of the British Crown corporation sole.
However, in-between the "then" and "now" times of Henry VIII came a series of civil wars engulfing England; Scotland and Ireland. Out of that came first a republic in England, then a forced marriage of Scotland into that same republic, but it did not last.
In 1660 a series of coup d'états began with General George Monck and his army from Coldstream, Scotland. It was Monck who put King Charles II on the throne in 1660 and began a new monarchy (although his successor James II was also overthrown by an invasion from Hans Knot's Holland.)
In order to shut everyone up by placing the populace under fear of arrest and all that comes with a charge of treason, General Monck and his lap-dog king created a General Post Office with monopoly powers to censor communications. That is how they censored the mails. Then by claiming that every new invention from the telegraph to the telephone had to go through some form of central clearance center, their rigged courts decided to brand each one of them as a form of 'post office', and that of course placed them under the control of the GPO.
You won't find any of that in Rusling's 'bible' because Rusling with his endorser Mr Knot are part of that team branded by Mr. Knot's 'Holy Bible' as "teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm."

If someone sets themselves up to be a teacher, you would expect that person to understand the subject that they are claiming the ability to teach someone else.
Not so with Paul Rusling. Having already declared that he hates reading history books and that he dislikes doing research, he has opted for a condensed form of plagiarism. But to condense information it is necessary to understand what you are condensing. Not so with Paul Rusling.
The trouble with this self-appointed teacher is that he was a very poor pupil in the subject matter that he has set out to teach other people. In plain language, Paul Rusling does not know what he is writing about and consequently he has no way of verifying that what he is writing is true, or even that it makes literal sense!
There is a lot of controversy that swirls around the character of Nathan Subblefield, who Paul Rusling refers to on page 10 of his 'bible'. But typical of the way in which Rusling writes, he gets one bit of information mixed-up with another bit of information and hey presto! - Rusling has created yet another misleading bit of nonsense.
Nathan was born on November 22, 1860, and after tinkering around in the fields of Kentucky as a "truck farmer", he began experimenting with his telephone. Nathan Stubblefield experimented with the idea of transmitting point-to-point communications across his fields by wireless telephony.
Nathan's story first sprang to life on January 12, 1902 as a big feature on page 35 of the St Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper. Then, on March 20, 1902, it is alleged that Nathan transmitted both voice and music from a steamer anchored on the Potomac River about a third of a mile from shore at Washington, D.C. But there are a lot of unanswered and scientific questions with a corresponding lack of documented answers about what Nathan did, and how Nathan claimed to have achieved it.
Now let's have a look at what Paul Rusling writes about Nathan Stubblefield without reference to any documentation at all: "In the 1890s, Nathan Stubblefield had demonstrated broadcasting voice and music from a boat on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. No recordings survive but the event was widely publicised in newspapers of the day." (sic)
Clearly Paul Rusling does not depend upon factual reporting as the basis for his text, because that event is alleged to have taken place in 1902, not in the 1890s as he claims. But does it matter whether Paul Rusling is accurate with his dates and information?
Well, since his 'bible' is supposed to be a work of fact, and not fiction, it would seem that a confidence trick is being played out on the paying readers of his 'bible'. His readers must surely believe that what they have bought is a factual account, and not a work of fiction.
However, it is apparent that in instance after instance, Rusling not only uses poor grammar and allows typographical errors to remain uncorrected, but his storytelling is mostly based upon fable, and that fable is geared to selling his readers a series of nonsensical lies. In total, these lies are in fact commercial propaganda in support of a tiny U.K. licensed radio station controlled by his friend Malcolm Smith who has called his station 'Radio Caroline'.
Since Rusling is so concerned with transmitters, he might have spent some time telling his readers about the fanciful way in which Nathan Stubblefield claimed to be 'transmitting'. Let's review what the St Louis Post-Dispatch published on page 35 of its edition for January 12, 1902: "At the public test of wireless telephone held in Murray, Ky., Mr. Stubblefield placed his transmitter in the courthouse square, and ran two wires from it into the ground. He established five 'listening' stations in various parts of the town, the furthest six blocks distant from the transmitter. Then Mr. Stubblefield's son took his place at the transmitter .... simultaneously everyone at the receivers heard him with remarkable distinctness."
What exactly Nathan Stubblefield did that day, and how Nathan Stubblefield did it, is open to question. But what is certain from this newspaper account, is that this event took place before the event on the steamer, and that both events took place in the year 1902. Rusling claims that the steamer event took place in the 1890s.
So what if Rusling got his years mixed-up? Well, what if he gets his 'facts' mixed-up in addition to his dates? It seems that we are drifting very close to a work of fiction. However, none of the above is intended to ridicule Nathan Stubblefield or his early experiments; it is intended to place Rusling's content within the context of his (lack of) factual reporting.
In 1986, Mervyn Hagger, under the pen name of John England, recorded a documentary program called 'The Story of Radio'. It was distributed to attendees of a KRQX-AM and KZEW-FM 'live' concert in the Dallas and Fort Worth Metroplex of Texas. That broadcast acknowledges the part played by Nathan Stubblefield in the development of radio broadcasting.

A caveat is proffered: At the time that the recording was made, a reference was drawn from the autobiography of David Sarnoff who became the guiding force behind the creation of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA). Sarnoff claimed that he had personally intercepted the radio distress calls sent by the RMS Titantic. This has now been established to be untrue.
On page 11, Rusling tries to inform his readers about the creation of the RCA, but it is clear that Rusling does not know why this entity was created or who created it and under what circumstances it was created. Rusling claimed that it was the result of: "the American government removing many of the restrictions on radio in 1919."
However, the background story to the creation of RCA is the background story to the creation of the British Broadcasting Company Limited in 1922, and the entangled claims to copyrights in the United Kingdom that gave rise to Phonographic Performances Limited and 'needle-time'. Rusling on the other hand simply blunders ahead with these words: "Many component manufacturers joined a 'talent pool' called RCA, ostensibly to share new technology, but in practice this became one of the largest group manufacturing companies in the business."
So what was RCA and why was it so important?
Rusling does not tell his readers, but if readers want to know the story in detail as told according to academic standards, they would do well to refer to the abundant material on the subject that has been authored by Gilder and Hagger and which is available free of charge and on line at http://foundthreads.com/
In brief, RCA was the result of a forced buy-out of American Marconi by the General Electric Company of America. American Marconi with its parent company in Chelmsford, Essex in England, was forced to sell out to G.E. of America at a time when the U.S. Navy was looking with suspicion on the Royal Navy as a potential enemy protagonist.
What Rusling refers to as a 'talent pool' was in fact a cross-licensing system of patent exchanges by other electrical manufacturers who then became shareholders in a gigantic Trust that the U.S. Congress eventually took aim at. But there is no way to understand the creation of the original BBC or the British record cartel created initially by RCA under the banner of Electric and Musical Industries (EMI), without first learning all about the GE-RCA Trust.
Rusling continues with his blind essay leading his readers into the ditch of confusion on his next page, and I shall address that in tomorrow's blog.
Some have written to me wondering why I am so long-winded in explaining details related to this Review. Well, let's say if I followed the lead of Paul Rusling - I would be accused of "he said"; "she said" without any way of knowing who is telling the truth.
Therefore I will fulfill the promise that I made to you yesterday concerning the comment that begins at the bottom of page 9 of Rusling's 'bible', and continues on to his page 10 (original softback edition.)
Paul Rusling referred to the General Post Office with these words:

Since Paul Rusling does not read history books or perform original research (he admitted), then where did his information come from about the history of the GPO?

This video called 'Yesterday Never Happened: Dial 999 for Caroline', was made by the same team that Paul Rusling used a source for his plagiarized text. It is called: The British Interregnum: a yesterday that never happened.
Its abstract follows: Three hundred years before George Orwell wrote his 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty Four, Seventeenth Century events referred to as the 'Interregnum', could have served as one source for his inspiration.
Several themes run through Orwell's musings, and one pertains to the compilation of a dictionary scheduled for publication by the year 2050. The purpose of Orwell's lexicon is to document the finality of a process achieved through 'extirpation by redaction'.
By intentionally reversing common definitions of specific words, and then interjecting those alternative renditions into common usage, they eventually lose their original meanings, and those words can be then be removed from the dictionary. Orwell explained that it is part of a process to control human memory: "You are unable to remember real events and you persuade yourself that you remember other events which never happened."
Today, each time the word 'Interregnum' is substituted for events which took place between the years 1649 to 1660, the process of 'extirpation by redaction' is being employed.

At the bottom of page 9 and continuing on to page 10 is a very interesting statement, because without any introduction, Paul Rusling begins to talk about the General Post Office. He wrote these words:

Since Paul Rusling does not cite sources due to his 'smash and grab' approach of plagiarizing without foreknowledge of what he is stealing, it might be interesting for readers to learn how these words about the General Post Office (GPO), came to be in his 'bible'. Remember, Paul Rusling does not read history books (he says), and he does not like research (he says), so how did he come by such obscure information that the GPO was formed back in the 1700s as an agency of censorship?
Well Paul Rusling used to be on a closed mailing list and he had been receiving a copyright email publication called the 'Caroline Investigation'. It was authored by Mervyn Hagger with Genie Baskir and Eric Guilder. This information was contained in that publication and it also appears in a video which is still on line. There is a link to it at the end of today's blog!
Because the newsletter was an electronic publication in circulation to a rather large but regulated mailing list, it was of course a copyrighted publication. That did not trouble Paul Rusling! This was in fact Rusling's first port of call in stealing the work of other people for his 'bible'.
Secondly, Rusling sent many email questions to the authors about the subject matter in various editions of the copyrighted publication called the 'Caroline Investigation'. Then Rusling took that which was not his to take, without understanding what he was taking, and he then created his absurdly titled 'bible'.
Rusling was not the first to steal from this 'Caroline Investigation' newsletter and then rush off to create his own book. Another person on the mailing list was Brian Lister. He released a book with the eponymous title of 'Pirate Gold' - because it offered a wealth of golden information for would-be thieves, or pirates. Lister even had the nerve to ask Mervyn Hagger to review his work prior to publication.
However, Rusling was more ambitious in his theft than Lister. When the research team of Gilder, Hagger and Baskir began to build a second research library, Rusling visited it more than once; but he admitted that he had no time for books - especially history books, and he certainly had no time to do research. Rusling's preferred methodology for collecting data, is theft.
At the time of his visits, Rusling was a disappointed man who had been previously trying to get a pedophile with money to finance his "Party Boat" project, but that was not going too well for him. Quite a number of people who have associated themselves with the subject of offshore broadcasting to Britain have been hauled into court rooms and charged with various crimes associated with the subject of pedophilia. It is a form of activity that is akin to slave master activity. Pedophiles target their captive victims with abuse because, their victims lack the physical and/or mental ability to resist demands made upon their bodies for the self-gratification of the brutes who are abusing them.
In his supposedly comprehensive 'bible', Rusling does not delve into this subject at all. Instead, Rusling brushes it off as being an uncalled for subject that sullies the subject of his cult 'bible'. But the cult which he serves and which is made manifest at the end of his 'bible', is like many religious cults: it is wrapped in secrecy because it is mired in various forms of criminal activity.
The ship on the cover of Rusling's 'bible' is known as 'Ross Revenge' and it has absolutely no connection to Radio Caroline which existed from 1964 to 1967. The "Supporters" (as they call themselves) who created a series of radio stations on board that ship after 1980, adopted the name of 'Radio Caroline' for their operations. But to repeat, they used a name that had no association with the original twin stations that were known as Radio Caroline which existed between 1964 and 1967.
This latter-day eponymous operation was initially managed by a confidence trickster in the USA whose massive fraud resulted in what has become euphemistically known as the 'Radio Caroline Criminal Case'. It is properly identified as "United States of America v. James Ryan" and filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Ryan was charged with 18 U.S.C. s.1623 (Perjury to grand jury - 3 Counts); 18 U.S.C. s.1341 (Mail fraud - 6 Counts); 18 U.S.C s.1343 (Wire fraud - 3 Counts).
The background of this criminal activity eventually resulted in a criminal court case in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that was filed on October 5, 1983. It involved criminal activity in Massachusetts; New York; Nevada, and it even tried to embroil the character known as 'Wolfman Jack' who was represented in California, into this sordid mess. It was because of the Interstate nature of this case that the USA Justice Department and its Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), became involved.
While Paul Rusling refers repeatedly to James Ryan in his 'bible' he avoids any indication or implication of his own complicity with James Ryan in other matters. In fact you won't get the real story about James Ryan from Paul Rusling. For that you will need to turn to Offshore Echos magazine who have reproduced the court papers! However, he chose to do so, Rusling has quite a tale to tell, because he knew Ryan and Rusling claimed that he had stayed in Ryan's home during one of his many attempts to raise money by dubious means for radio projects that have splashed into the news from time to time. When it comes to other peoples' property and other peoples' money, Rusling figures that what's yours is his for the taking, and what's his, is his alone.
The criminal project that obtained the ship that is on the cover of Rusling's 'bible' is called 'Ross Revenge'. It was originally going to be renames 'Imagine' after the eponymous John Lennon song. But because of Ryan's criminal court case, the 'Ross Revenge' was furtively taken to sea from Spain, without going through formal procedures of registration.
In England, its lack of registration led some "Supporters" to break-away from the core "Supporters", and they began making inquiries to what they were being asked to help finance. This followed in the wake of the Philadelphia court case which had deprived the original project of its funding by criminal means. These breakaway "Supporters" are the people that Rusling repeatedly calls "busybodies" on page 412 of his 'bible.
These "busybodies" were two individuals named John Burch and Christopher England. From London they contacted Mervyn Hagger in Texas to investigate the registration of the 'Ross Revenge, which was supposedly registered in the nation of Panama. Beginning on page 412 and continuing on through page 413 of his 'bible'; Rusling attempts to spin his own tale to his blinkered readers about Panama's "breakaway representatives in Houston, Texas". Nothing could be further from the truth, but since Rusling's 'bible' is a book based upon deceit, this is not unusual.
The "busybodies" ("Supporters") infuriated Ronan O'Rahilly who had become entangled with this new criminal project. O'Rahilly demanded of Burch to explain who this person named Hagger is and why he was investigating the 'Ross Revenge'. Burch recorded all of this in his booklet publication for the "Caroline" "Supporters".
The reason why Mervyn Hagger in Texas was able to supply information to these "busybody" "Supporters" in London, England, is because Mervyn Hagger had a long history with the team of Eric Gilder and Genie Baskir who in 1980 came together after individually taking an interest in the history of offshore broadcasting. Gilder had written a thesis at university on the subject, and both Hagger and Baskir had worked with Don Pierson who created Radio London; Radio England and Britain Radio.
All manner of nonsense had been written and recorded about Don Pierson and his offshore stations. This included the release of a tape by Steve England who admitted in a later version that no one really knew anything until Mervyn Hagger began publishing and broadcasting the actual story. Steve England's tape (in which Johnnie Walker got away with inventing an apocryphal story about Don Pierson's mother), has a later edition on which Steve England admits that Mervyn Hagger had subsequently revealed details that no else knew. This tape has been recently obtained from Ebay, and it is now being digitally remastered for release on Online in the near future. But back to Rusling's claim on page 413 about "breakaway representatives in Houston, Texas". Rusling wrote:
"The Panamanian authority revealed that the original ships (sic) registration had not been completed satifactory. (sic)"
After his attack using poor grammar, Rusling continued:
"In fact it appeared to have been issued by a breakaway representatives (sic) in Houston, Texas, although the ship's owner maintained that it had been taken out in good faith." That structurally weird sentence by Paul Rusling is untrue on two counts:
1) In conversations by phone and in writing with Panamanian authorities in New York, and in Panama City, Panama; Mervyn Hagger was asked by the Panamanian government which had taken over from the deposed dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega Moreno, to investigate a fraudulent operation run by two lesbians and a male in Houston, Texas. It was the sexual relationship between these persons that made their secretive but criminal activities possible, and not the fact that they were merely two women and a man who happened to be working together.
In the wake of the power vacuum following the overthrow of Noriega by the USA military, the various tentacles of Noriega's regime involving drug smuggling and related criminal activities, had been severed from their central control. The research group with which Mervyn Hagger is connected, had paid several thousands of US Dollars to Allan Weiner who claimed to be the rightful owner of another radio ship called 'Sarah'. He wasn't. But his involvement looped back through a disc jockey on board 'Ross Revenge' named John Ford, whose real surname is Hungerford.
It was as a result of untangling the Weiner mess that all manner of previously secret UK government information fell into the laps of the Hagger-Gilder-Baskir research group. This included a document made by James Murphy on behalf of the UK government for the USA government concerning Weiner and Roy Bates' absurd claim about his 'Principality of Sealand'.
So extensive was this research that the FCC lawyer turned over to Baskir the entire Weiner case file (in which the Murphy document was found), and as a result, James Murphy called Hagger twice by phone. Murphy was supported by related phone calls from Barry Maxwell, head of the UK Radio Investigation Service.
The bogus Panamanian "Consulate" in Houston, Texas had not only issued a fake registry for a yacht called 'Ross Revenge'; it had issued bogus registrations for cargo ships and oil tankers plying the waters of the world! The insurance liability factors created by this fraud ran into the billions of U.S. Dollars. So everyone wanted to deal with this matter as quickly and as quietly as possible!
2) Regarding the "owners" of the 'Ross Revenge' who had obtained this bogus registration: who were they? Following the leads backwards from the tangled criminal court case in Philadelphia they ended up in a potential 'soup' of persons who had been swindled and therefore had claims against the ship. That mess would take years to unravel, but in the end, after heavy legal expenses, what would the claimants have gained?
Minus legal expenses, what would be left to divide once the 'Ross Revenge' was sold? Who would pay for the expense of going to sea and grabbing the vessel? That is what the "Supporters" that Rusling refers to on page 412, were hoping to achieve all by themselves. Of course, had they succeeded it would only have complicated an existing international problem. But in the end what was there to gain financially? Nothing. On the other hand, these same "Breakaway Supporters" did alarm the core "Supporters" and it caused them to try to physically hold on to the ship that was in their possession.
What a tangled and sordid story this is. No wonder Paul Rusling does not want to tell the true story. But his main purpose in creating his work by theft and by misinformation is really found at the end of this book. It is to create a new and untruthful story that the slogan 'Caroline continues' depends. But Caroline does not continue, it died on August 14, 1967.
At the beginning of today's portion of this Review, I began to tell you about the GPO and why and how Rusling came to make his claim. I will explain both why and how Rusling begin his brief account of the GPO on page 9, which then continues on into page 10 of his 'bible'. It begins with his plagiarized theft.
