Aodogán's Latent Agenda, part 14 ....

By carefully reexamining of all available existing evidence, a totally new interpretation about how Radio Caroline came to be is now emerging. That reexamination is turning the accepted tales about the O'Rahilly family upside down.

Just as we have been claiming all along, the broadcasting and publishing world have been pumping out a lot of fake information about both the start of Radio Caroline, and the history of the O'Rahilly family.

First, 'The O'Rahilly' was not trying to start a 'Rising' in 1916, he was trying to stop one!

He was also the second, not the first person to call himself 'The O'Rahilly', and there was a third: the brother of Ronan O'Rahilly's father: Ronan's uncle. That man was both a barrister, and a Nazi sympathizer during WWII.

However, Ronan's father was a hardworking businessman who needed the help of various governments - including the Irish; British and American. He was not trying to attack anyone or upset anyone.  You have been told how his son Ronan showed up in London during 1961 with little money in his pocket.

But why did Ronan O'Rahilly show up in London?

Because although he denied it, he was still working for the family business called Weatherwell Limited, and that business had taken a downturn.

An infusion of investment money was being called for, and it was Ronan's job to help to find investors.

Why did Weatherwell Ltd need the money?

To develop two adjoining properties at Greenore that had been bought at auction. Those two properties were the railway terminal and the railway hotel which Weatherwell Ltd wanted demolish and use the cleared site to build a new factory. Their existing factory was near Dublin, and that is where Ronan's father lived.

Forget the silly stories you have heard and read about Ronan hanging around actors; clubs and beat groups, those stories are either distorted beyond all recognition of the truth, or they did not happen at all. Ronan was trying to make friends with anyone with cash who could be coaxed into an investment in his father's business in which Ronan had a stake. So if the world of show business offered entry into that kind of circle, that was a circle that could be explored by Ronan, because according to him, he arrived without any networking contacts. He had to make and find some new ones, by himself. So that is what he did.

We will come back to the history of Weatherwell Ltd., but first a word about Allan James Crawford, because he was the kind of man with links to money that Aodogán was seeking, via his son Ronan. Oh, we are well aware that Ronan told others something else, but you can forget that, because what you are now learning for the first time is the real story!

You have been told that Allan James Crawford ran out of money and that his company was bought out by Planet Productions Limited. Well, you can forget that nonsense as well. It was Project Atlanta that gained control of the Caroline organization until Philip Solomon took over, and Solomon was trying to do what Crawford had been doing by promoting his own independent record labels by which time the days of Caroline were numbered..

But let's go back to 1964 and that trip taken by Crawford in the company of young Ronan who took Crawford to see his father, Aodogán O'Rahilly. Supposedly, it was Crawford who went to see him as a potential investor in Project Atlanta Limited, when in fact, Crawford went to see him armed with money to ask Aodogán to allow the people that Crawford represented, to bring two vessels to the nearly deserted properties at Greenore, and quietly convert them into radio ships. Aodogán did not want adverse publicity, and Crawford was not trying to solicit publicity either.

It worked a treat because the ships had a home and Aodogán got some cash.

Addendum: Launch of THV Stella ....

Somehow overlooked in our previous editorials on this same subject, is the fact that the replacement date for the THV Satellite is given as May 1, 1961. That replacement vessel was the THV Stella, and it was built at East Cowes, along with many other Trinity House ships. This date is extremely important in the chronology to the spin-off of the Radio Caroline project!

Allan James Crawford's first radio ship is identified by Jack Kotschack in his book originally written in the Swedish language, and then both redacted and translated into the English language by Paul Harris, the ship was to be rename 'SS Atlanta'. That vessel was a steam ship (SS) like the THV Satellite. However, there is some documentation, which we are currently investigating which shows that Crawford intended to rename the vessel SS Atalanta, and that the original name for his station might have been Radio Atalanta. It was possibly after Crawford met Bill Weaver in London during late 1962 that "Atalanta" became "Atlanta", which was after John Delaney had removed his financial support for the mortgage on the THV Satellite.

Now if its replacement was not even launched until May 1, 1961, it means that the THV Satellite was still in service. Allan James Crawford came to the attention of British authorities when they noticed that he held a ship's mortgage on the former THV Satellite which was docked at East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. But they discovered this late in the day when Crawford had already abandoned his intention of using the THV Satellite. So, because it was no longer topical and relevant information, it was not followed-up by the government investigators.

It also means that since the ex-THV Satellite was Crawford's original radio ship, he could not have begun his venture before May 1, 1961, and allowing time to locate the vessel and get a ship's mortgage - in his own name - it probably pushes the start-date of Radio Atlanta back towards the end of 1961, or even the beginning of 1962 - which is the year before (1963) when Crawford said that he first met Ronan O'Rahilly! (He is on film stating this, see the video at http://radiocaroline.info

This means that the events that took place after May 1, 1961 to the beginning of 1962, the year before Crawford says that he first met Ronan O'Rahilly, can now be reexamined in microscopic detail to see how the pieces of the puzzle go together with the episode involving John Delaney. These events are important because Radio Nord on board the ship that became Mi Amigo, did not close down until June 30, 1962, so Crawford could not have used that vessel at any time before that date.

Later we will do the same thing with the lives of Ronan O'Rahilly; Ian Cowper Ross and Christopher Moore who are all on that first Granada TV film that caused so much trouble in Greenore for Aodogán O'Rahilly and Weatherwell Ltd. That company was headquartered near Dublin in the general location of Aodogán's home.

No one have ever created a timeline such as the one we are now building in microscopic detail. People like Paul Rusling try to gloss over it completely, and the Offshore Radio Museum is just a fantasyland of misinformation about this subject.

Clearly the fiction that Radio Atlanta and Radio Caroline were two separate projects is propaganda that trolls feel is necessary to prop-up the lies and distortions that have been spread far and wide by Ronan O'Rahilly, with help from his script-writing colleague, Ian Cowper Ross. The same is true of the mythology that Allan James Crawford knew nothing about Radio Caroline until the last moment.

Here's why ....

First of all, Radio Caroline was born at 47 Dean Street, in London, and that was the home base of Allan James Crawford. If we go back to the first visible signs of a registered company managing the affairs of Radio Caroline, we have to go back before Planet Productions Limited, because it did not come into existence until February 27, 1964.

The Regent Street address used on air was only a temporary mail drop. There was no office at Stevens Press Ltd. on Fetter Lane, and no company called 'Caroline Sales Limited' had been registered. That legal oversight caused problems later on. Therefore the question arises as to who or what purchased the mv Fredericia; it radio transmitters and equipment and paid for the mv Mi Amigo to leave Galveston for Europe?

The only company that existed was Project Atlanta Limited, and the heavy-hitters who came to populate its board of directors, were not on its board when the company was registered! Someone intervened after the registration of Project Atlanta Limited at the end of July 1963, and that person kicked life into the entire project.

That person was Charles Orr Stanley and his intervention took place sometime around October 1963, according to Jocelyn Stevens. Something that the trolls overlook or do not know, is that people associated with Project Atlanta Limited then took over the running of Radio Caroline following the adoption of that name for both stations. There was no "merger" and Planet Productions Limited did not "take over" Project Atlanta Limited, it was the other way around! Crawford got out because he wanted to 'plug' his own records, but when Solomon came in with more money, he began to 'plug' his own records and so Solomon pushed out Crawford.

But back of it all prior to October 15, 1964, was a much bigger game plan, and that is what has been concealed - until now. We will address that plan in detail within a future editorial.


Second, after the purchase of the mv Fredericia, the ship was moved to Rotterdam by Wijsmuller, and it stayed there for a longer period than it was at Greenore. It was in Rotterdam where the Dallas-made transmitters were loaded, but for some reason the generator was not, and this caused a problem later on due to its rough-shod installation at Greenore by a protesting Dundalk Engineering Works group of employees.

Third, before the mv Mi Amigo had even arrived in Europe on its way back from Galveston, Ronan O'Rahilly was present at the meeting where Harry Spencer was hired and Alfred Nicholas Thomas was discussing the masts and antennas. This took place at 47 Dean Street where the initial Radio Caroline djs were trained and recorded by Radio Atlanta staff under the direction of Allan James Crawford. No one was surprised about what was taking place. It was one plan, not two rival plans.

Fourth, in the background was Irishman (from Cork) Charles Orr Stanley and his son John Stanley. They were the people pulling the strings to make everything come together - after Bill Weaver told Crawford that he could not lease, only purchase the mv Mi Amigo due to McLendon's fears relating to the 'Hovering Acts'.

The Stanleys then spun-off the Radio Caroline venture as a low-cost way of discovering just how far the UK Tory government would go to stop Radio Caroline from succeeding. One thing that they did learn at the last moment, was that work on the ships could not be continued on the Isle of Wight where Harry Spencer was based. That is because Thomas, who had worked on the GBOK project at Sheerness, was aware of the fact that the GPO had made some kind of 'raid' on the Pye facility where the GBOK was tied-up alongside. Alarm bells sounded when it was revealed where Harry Spencer intended to work on the two ships, which was close to his boat yard on the Isle of Wight. The money behind the venture decided that an alternative and secret site had to be found.

That is when Ronan O'Rahilly earned his keep by suggesting Greenore in the Republic of Ireland.

Now the trolls and the anorak writers have portrayed Ronan O'Rahilly as a rebel cut from the same cloth as his grandfather, who was the second of three people calling himself 'The O'Rahilly'. But this is not true. Neither is the explanation by Ronan O'Rahilly of why he had come to London, or even what his father was doing in Ireland, or more specifically, in Greenore. The evidence points to the fact that Ronan had been sent to London to find investors for his father's company!

Ronan not a rebel like his grandfather, and neither was his father Aodogán O'Rahilly. But for that matter, Ronan's grandfather was not who everyone has been led to believe that he was. He was against the idea of the 1916 'Rising' and tried to stop it before it started! However, just as saying goes that curiosity killed the cat; Ronan's grandfather got shot and killed when he decided to see for himself what was going on in Dublin with the partially aborted 'Rising'!

All of that has been twisted into something that does not resemble true events, but then Ronan's father has been portrayed as a wealthy Irish businessman who entertained the idea of investing in a scheme proposed by Allan James Crawford. That is also rubbish. Aodogán O'Rahilly was looking for investors. He was not looking for investments in someone else's venture! Ronan was his father's 'bird dog'.

In reality, Allan James Crawford accompanied by Ronan O'Rahilly, came armed with a bribe. He wanted to know if he and his associates could be given permission to quietly use a part of the unused and undeveloped property that was owned by the company that Aodogán O'Rahilly managed. Since the request came with money attached, and because Crawford was acting in secrecy and did not want publicity, Aodogán O'Rahilly agreed to Crawford's request.


The mv Caroline (ex-Fredericia) came and went quietly from Greenore, and then someone decided to test the transmitters on board that ship, while it was still in the vicinity of Greenore. Not only did that wreak havoc and annoy people in Ireland due to the interference that it caused on their television sets at home, but it also made everyone aware of the fact that the mv Mi Amigo was now there and being worked on for a similar project.

This disturbance alerted the news media, including a film crew from Granada's 'World in Action' television show. Someone allowed them into the Greenore compound and to even sail with the Mi Amigo when it left Greenore. As if that was not enough, they also employed a helicopter to film from overhead.

The resulting film pitched the murderous pirates of old with the people who were living in the area of Greenore during 1964, and when that program aired, it upset the locals even more.

But what about Ronan's father?

It seems that Allan Crawford went with Ronan to see Ronan's father who lived near Dublin which is some distance from Greenore. What Crawford and Ronan told Aodogán O'Rahilly is not known, but it clearly was not the truth.

Aodogán O'Rahilly was not a rebel, he was a struggling and respectable businessman trying to advance the management of Weatherwell Ltd., and it was Weatherwell Ltd which owned two adjoining properties at Greenore. They included the old railway terminus and the railway hotel.

But things had not been going well for Aodogán O'Rahilly, because Weatherwell Ltd., was short of cash due to a downturn in business, and so he could not develop the Greenore properties. Therefore whatever else Crawford brought with him, it must have included an infusion of cash in order to make Aodogán O'Rahilly an offer that he could not refuse. Behind that offer was Charles Orr Stanley. He had seeded the entire enterprise with help from associated business friends.

However, because Aodogán O'Rahilly was struggling to turn Weatherwell Ltd into a success story, and because Aodogán O'Rahilly needed the cooperation from both the government of the Irish Republic and the government of the United Kingdom to achieve that success, the last thing he wanted to do was antagonize either government. But that is what happened!
The adverse publicity created by the Granada TV show hurt the image of Aodogán's business as well as infuriating Aodogán's neighbors!

He took action by throwing Harry Spencer off the Weatherwell Ltd. property. He also got him to leave without completing work on the mv Mi Amigo and that ship left its dock in a very dangerous condition.
Viewers who saw that Granada TV show might have gained  the impression that the outfitting had been done on the premises of the Greenore Ferry Service, but in reality there was no such company. It was merely an operating name of Weatherwell Ltd.

Adendum: What is Trinity House? ....

NOW EXPANDED IN SCOPE SINCE FIRST PUBLICATION - Because the story of Trinity House is so entwined with the story of the beginnings of offshore radio broadcasting to the United Kingdom, we have decided to explain what Trinity House was in the days before 'Radio Caroline' was ever dreamed of. It is this backstory which explains how and why Harry Spencer got involved with Allan James Crawford, and why Harry Spencer is central to the story of 'Radio Caroline'.

If you have not read Ralph C. Humphries' book, you should, if you are interested in the subject of offshore radio. It was published in 2003 by a person who in 1976 was a uniformed employee of Trinity House.

According to Ralph, his interest in Radio Caroline began during 1976 when he was working for Trinity House. But unfortunately Ralph did not delve into the archived connections between Trinity House and Allan Crawford; instead he turned to Buster Pearson. So Ralph ended up with a 'Radio Caroline bible', long before Paul Rusling ever thought of the idea, and quite frankly Ralph's version also contains the same errors found in the latter-day version.

However, by luck or whatever it was, Ralph made friends with Harry Spencer who wrote an Addendum to be included in Ralph's book. You won't find that first-hand information anywhere else, and that information is key to unlocking a lot of mysteries about 'Radio Caroline' and Greenore. But on the other hand, Harry did not necessarily put everything into chronological order, but he did provide enough clues when combined with other clues, to provide an overview of events for which details can then be discovered from other archived material. So with that caveat in mind, you should read Ralph's book!

I wish Ralph had discovered just how important that Addendum was in that it provides a 'key' to unlocking the past. Harry only hints at his prior contact with Allan James Crawford, but Ralph should have delved into the background operations of Trinity House, as they related to its depots and vessels.

It seems that the THV Satellite was docked at East Cowes because Trinity House maintained six districts, and East Cowes was one of them.

In 1961, Cowes was also the location of the ship builders Messrs. J. S. White** who built a new ‘Mermaid’-class lighthouse tender for Trinity House. It was "launched by Mrs. Drake, the wife of Elder Brother Captain Kenneth McMillan Drake" as THV Stella, which "then proceeded to the Penzance District, replacing (THV) Satellite which had been in service since 1924. Stella remained in service until 1989."*

This resulted in the THV Satellite being brought to East Cowes upon retirement, because that was the location of a Trinity House depot which were also situated at Penzance; Great Yarmouth; Harwich; Swansea and Holyhead. Each of those depots was the responsibility of a Superintendent who was also the Captain of one of its vessels. In 1957, Trinity House had a fleet of nine lighthouse tenders, and one was based at each depot except for Harwich, which had four vessels. They varied in size between 900 and 2000 tons.

Note that Trinity House report that its vessel THV Satellite was in service until 1961, which gives us a good starting date for Allan Crawford's original venture. It could not have begun before then because the ship was not available. All indications are that Crawford began his venture at some time during 1962.

However, what is very important to note is that Cowes was the home territory of Harry Spencer who took command of all work on both the mv Fredericia after being assigned the job by Captain De Jong Lanau, Superintendent at Wijsmuller. De Jong also assigned the job of building a new mast on the mv Mi Amigo, and initially both ships were going to be outfitted on the Isle of Wight.

Allan James Crawford first made contact with Harry Spencer when the THV Satellite came up for sale, and Crawford obtained a ship's mortgage on the vessel.
*** The reason why Crawford was directed towards an ex-Trinity House Vessel was because of his prior contact and advice from VRON (Radio Veronica and CNBC.)

Consequently, after Crawford lost his financial backing from John Delaney as a result of the mv Lucky Star boarding, he became interested in the fate of the mv Bon Jour, which became Magda Maria, and then Mi Amigo.

Crawford then asked Harry Spencer to come to 47 Dean Street in London which was attended by Captain De Jong; Afred Nicholas Thomas and Ronan O'Rahilly. This was after the mv Fredericia had been bought and brought to Rotterdam by Wijsmuller in very late 1963, and within hours of the mv Mi Amigo sailing from Galveston Island, Texas.

At the meeting in early 1964, Alfred Nicholas Thomas was in charge of the antenna side of the discussions and Captain De Jong was responsible for outfitting the mv Fredericia, and equipping both that ship and the mv Mi Amigo with antenna masts.

After taking Harry Spencer to the Wijsmuller offices, Captain De Jong awarded Harry Spencer with the actual work of constructing the masts and rigging the antennas which were both designed by A. N. Thomas' ex-BBC associate, John Howard Gilman.

Behind all of this was the Pye organization managed by Charles Orr Stanley who in turn handed off immediate control to his son John Stanley. Their management was kept out of the press because at the same time they were building a commercial station on the Isle of Man which required a British GPO broadcasting licence.

Adendum: Trinity House, Isle of Wight ....

Paul Rusling is the guy who stole our paid for (in time and money) research. He refuses to apologize and he has several pedantic trolls who want to play a game of "gotcha" to try and prove that what you read here, is untrue, and the nonsense that Ruslingism has unleashed in its appropriately named 'bible', is true.

The issue concerns a timeline of how and when Allan James Crawford decided to get into the business of starting a commercial radio station on a ship in order to promote his own record labels. It also concerns the time frame in which he met an Irishman without funds who was in London and named Ronan O'Rahilly.

Therefore it is necessary for us to further dot our "i"s and cross our "t"s, even though these trolls also yell for us to "get on with it" and stop repeating details. But in order to prove our accusation that Paul Rusling is a thief of intellectual property who is accompanied by at least two other trolls who all support a local community radio station which pretends to be a continuation of Radio Caroline, it is necessary to further explain details about the THV Satellite.

Meanwhile, Rusling's trolls all hide behind childish names for fear of being exposed. Therefore it is necessary for us to spend more time on the fine print; the details which would normally appear as academic footnotes in our published monologues, which Rusling and the trolls never read.

By 2010 this project had resulted in a manuscript of about 800 pages in length, if printed out as a commercial book similar to Rusling's print-on-demand variety. But other events got in the way. Because immediately following that time period both personal events and a book about the Pye Group of companies was brought to our attention. That book called 'Radio Man' resulted in a new and expensive phase of our investigation into the true origins of the station known as Radio Caroline.

We uncovered a trail involving two men: Alfred Nicholas Thomas and John Howard Gilman who had both retired from the BBC with World War II backgrounds involving UK Secret Service work. Both of them went to work for Pye in a clandestine manner.

Their work in offshore radio began after 1959 when Thomas retired. Then came heavy involvement with 'Radio Veronica' (VRON/CNBC), followed by work on the Arnold Swanson 'GBOK' project which involved the ex-lightship 'Lady Dixon' berthed at Sheerness alongside a Pye factory. That ex-lightship aspect then introduced people from Trinity House.

These two men, with Trinty House involvement, then became entangled with Australian Allan James Crawford who had teamed up with a woman named Dorothy Black (who went by the name of Kitty.) In 1962 Crawford and Black began working on a plan to start an offshore radio station variously called 'Radio Atalanta' and 'Radio Atlanta'.

Crawford and Black made contact with the friend at Trinity House who told them about a famous steam driven vessel which had been retired to the Trinity House Depot at East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. So Crawford and Black got in touch with a local mast builder named Harry Spencer who had a boat yard at Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Crawford then used his credit based upon his own music business activity to get a ship's mortgage for the now ex-THV 'Satellite'.

Because of Kitty Black's theatrical background she was able to introduce Crawford to John Delaney who owned a group of companies all related to the world of theatrical productions. It was John Delaney who then became Crawford's primary backer in his radio station project that he shared with Kitty Black.

But then an event took place in another country involving a complicated story about a breakaway group from another offshore radio project which became the center of attention in much of the press of Europe. When their ship called 'Lucky Star' was boarded by Danish Police, John Delaney withdrew his financial support for the Crawford-Black venture, and Crawford's mortgage on the ex-THV 'Satellite' lapsed.

It was not until later in 1962 when Charles William (Bill) Weaver from Houston, Texas moved into a London hotel that the Crawford-Black plan was revived.

Bill Weaver had shut down 'Radio Nord' in Sweden as the emissary of Gordon McLendon, and McLendon wanted to sell the ex-'Radio Nord' ship and the landbased studio equipment which had been loaded on board the vessel then called 'Magda Maria'. It was moored off Brightlingsea, Essex, and Weaver then met Crawford who's interest in offshore radio had been revived.

But Crawford and Black now lacked a financial base and so they could not afford to buy the ship. That vessel, later renamed 'Mi Amigo', was then taken to Galveston Island, Texas where it was stripped of all broadcasting equipment. It's end user was intended to be Robert F. Kennedy as part of an ultra-secret CIA project aimed at Cuba. But those details do not belong here.

Our purpose in this editorial is to explain how and why the ex-THV 'Satellite' ended up in East Cowes; how Harry Spencer got involved, and why Crawford got a mortgage on the ship, and the identity of the person who had been backing Allan Crawford.

None of this is in Rusling's plagiarized work because we didn't tell him the details, so he glossed over it in his book. Now he and his troll friends are huffing and puffing over semantics.

Thieves like Rusling just need to admit their thievery and say "sorry" to the people they stole from. But so far Rusling has just doubled-down with his trolls, and they are trying to huff and puff Rusling's conmanship out of the paper bag of gas in which they have immersed themselves.

It would be nice if someone would assist us in bursting their big bag of wind.

Harry Spencer was in charge of both ships at Greenore and he assigned the general work to employees of the Dundalk Engineering Works. But on the mv Mi Amigo, Gordon McLendon sent over his engineering emissary named Milan Leggett. He was in charge of the transmitters. Here he is at work at Greenore in this repeating clip:
Milan made sure that the Mi Amigo was not used for broadcasting to the United Kingdom until the mv Fredericia had passed the 'Hovering Acts' test. When that happened, George Saunders took over, and Milan returned to the USA.

The story of Milan Leggett is wrapped within the story that links back to Charles (Bill) Weaver's claims in his book (cover shown left), that the mv Mi Amigo; ex-Magda Maria; ex-Bon Jour off Sweden, which had been the home of Radio Nord; was tied to an ultra-secretive Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) project. We have lately been in contact with the Weaver family, and we have obtained copies of Bill Weaver's original manuscripts which are very different to the version that ended up in this book.

The reason for bringing this to your attention now, is because it would appear that 'someone' did not want Weaver (who was dying of cancer at the time), to publish his original manuscript as written, and which had gone through several rewrites. It is not unusual for the intelligence services to either redact (by blocking out text), or to change text. That is what happened to David Atlee Phillips in his book 'The Night Watch' - about which we will have more to say later on, because Phillips remained the best friend of Gordon McLendon for life.

For example, in his book, Phillips changed the CIA asset 'front' company which owned 'Radio Swan', from Gibraltar Steamship Company to 'Gulf Steamship Company' in order to get an okay from CIA censors. Today we know that the real name was 'Gibraltar' and not 'Gulf'.

Weaver's book by a dying man, was actually finished and published by a ghost-writer, and not by Weaver.

We also know that the Paul Harris English translation of the Jack Kotshack book about 'Radio Nord', which was originally written in the Swedish language, is a redacted and somewhat different version than the original.

The reason why this is important to note relates to the activities of Ove Sjöström whose background story is intertwined with the mythology about Arthur Carrington. Ove did work on 'Radio Nord', but his lack of qualifications as a radio engineer led George Saunders to sack him. George thought that Ove was responsible for the engineering mess on the mv Caroline (ex-Fredericia), when that was undoubtedly the result of deliberate sabotage performed by employees of Dundalk Engineering Works.

It is this layer upon layer of lies that takes so much time and money to untangle in order to get to the truth, that makes people like Paul Rusling so annoying. When Rusling stole some of our research and then twisted it to support more lies, it made our existing job that much more difficult, because now a new generation have come to believe something that is totally untrue.

Instead of just relating the facts in a storyline, some readers pop-up and start asking about Ronan O'Rahilly and 'Jimmy Ross' - a person who never existed. But now they think that he did because so many writers and broadcast scriptwriters have claimed that he did!

So we have to go step-by-step in untangling this deliberately confused mess.

Some of that confusion can be blamed on poor journalism and hack writers for profit like Rusling, but some of it has the imprint of the secret services upon it. To this day George Saunders is reluctant to discuss certain topics because he signed the UK 'Official Secrets Act', and that document allows censors to create new criminal breaches and prosecutions out of mere reference to activities of the past that could unravel hidden secrets!

Milan Leggett (now deceased) was a U.S. citizen working for Gordon McLendon, and that was both before and after the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Lee Harvey Oswald in McLendon's home base at Dallas, Texas. McLendon was also heavily involved in the Republic of Ireland prior to the advent of 'Radio Caroline', and his KLIF radio station in Dallas also became involved in the life and times of Jack Ruby who murdered Lee Harvey Oswald, who may, or may not have murdered John F. Kennedy. Not too many people have paid attention to the time before that chain of events began, when Lee Harvey Oswald showed up at Southampton, England.


Like it or not, we have to plod along documenting detail after detail in order to reveal the true story behind the creation of Radio Caroline.

 Well, it seems that our neighborhood literary thief is digging his grave again. Today Paul Rusling refuted yesterday's Blog by posting this on the GS Forum:

"I was sent some claims that the ships were headed for a dock on the Isle of Wight & Harry Spencer’s boatyard. Those of us who have been to Spencer’s and the IoW will know it has no docks at all, just tiny harbours and wharves Suitable for yachts & the Red Funnel Ferries, while Harry’s firm operate from a factory unit quite a few blocks inland. They never had a shipyard (or a dock) and the Island hasn't got berths with enough water for a radio ship, certainly no docks for docking whatsoever." [sic]

The problem for Paul Rusling and all of his bogus claims supporting hoax material such as the 'Jimmy Ross' story (for which he then charges trolls who he has duped into buying it), is that first and foremost our work is FREE for you to read, on this Blog. It does not mean that you can steal it by slapping your own name on it (like Paul Rusling), and charging others for it (like Paul Rusling). That is not permitted.

But if you will access our video at http://radiocaroline.info (which we will be updating since it was made before Rusling's theft), and if you will advance it to Allan Crawford's first venture, you will see both stills and video about Crawford's first ship called 'Satellite' - which was docked at the Isle of Wight - which Rusling says is impossible!

Caveat: Due to the childish behavior of the trolls, it is necessary to point out that what follows is a composite of scenes from the video 'Dial 999 for Caroline' which you can see in its entirety at http://radiocaroline.info

The docking at East Cowes on the Isle of Wight by the THV Satellite, which is a fact on file at Kew Archives and recorded by other authors, makes a lie out of Rusling's pompous prattle that it could not be done:
But even Ray Clark acknowledged its existence there after discovering the evidence at Kew that was deposited there by UK government officials. In other words, Rusling is saying don't believe the truth, believe Rusling lies - for which you have to pay a lot of money.

Now compare that with the truth which we are providing to you free of charge.

By the way, Rusling hates research and academic studies, he prefers to grab the work of others and stick his own name on it - after he has distorted it by adding on hoax material!


No wonder the crooks hate our daily revelations, they make the words of the crooks look really stupid.

It was not our invention that created the recital about the mv Fredericia's departure from Rotterdam to the Isle of Wight, it was Harry Spencer's words. I guess Harry Spencer who had his boat yard on the Isle of Wight knew more about Isle of Wight dockyard facilities than Paul Rusling. But the video cited above will prove that.

It is also interesting just how much of the information that we bought and paid for in both time and MONEY - that Rusling then STOLE for his so-called 'bible'. Over and over again we told him to apologize and we would move on, but no, he resorted to more lies and deceit.

We do have more information for you today, but we thought that we would clear this up first, since it directly relates to yesterday's Blog.

By the way. Yes, we can point to line after line after line in Rusling's 'bible' that he stole from us, and we were not the first ones to see it. George Saunders pointed it out to us during a phone call that he made in order to inform us!

You may shrug your shoulders and say "so what?" Well, if someone stole from you, how would you react, especially if the thief had pretended to be your friend? It seems that the trolls who support Rusling remain locked into their brainwashed cultism, no matter what evidence is presented, and therefore we ask them to please stop bothering us with pathetically silly comments. We are not interested and your comments will not be posted on line.

Aodogán's Latent Agenda, part 11 ....

The sub-title of this Blog is "Media-Microscope", and that is exactly what we are using by taking apart every known claim regarding the origins of the two radio ships that came to be at Greenore in the Republic of Ireland.

It is in this phase of the story that the hoaxers employ the tactics of Steve Martin's "You can be a millionaire" comedy routine (see Blog 7/31 for details.) Questions are raised about why we refer to Paul Rusling's stolen material which he has twisted into a bogus recital of the real story.

The answer is contained in our "Media-Microscope" theme.

Other trolls have claimed that we are unique in offering this true and counter-version of the fake story, and we readily admit that we are, and that unlike the fraudsters who reach into your pockets, we are asking NOTHING of you, because we are giving you this information free of charge. The trolls and Paul Rusling hate being reminded of this, and so we keep reminding you of this.

​Yesterday we explained how Ronan O'Rahilly was employed as a "decoy duck" to divert attention away from Jack Good, the man who really did promote British pop music in the Sixties. But he did so via television, and not radio, and then he did the same thing on the U.S. ABC television network with 'Shindig', which ran from September 16, 1964, to January 8, 1966.

We also explained how the two radio ships were originally bound for the Isle of Wight where Harry Spencer had his boat yard, and then that destination was switched at the very last moment to Greenore. From what Allan Crawford has related, it is obvious that he went to see 
Aodogán O'Rahilly at his home near Dublin, and it is equally obvious that from what Allan Crawford later said on the 1991 'Arena' show on BBC-TV, that he concealed the real purpose of his visit. Harry Spencer was not asked to drop by for a meal with the O'Rahilly family at home, Aodogán wanted to know what Harry was doing at Greenore.

Why?

Well, according to Harry Spencer someone decided to do something very stupid indeed. This is what Harry wrote:

"Prior to sailing, mv Caroline (ex-Fredericia), broadcast a test transmission, from Greenore, this put the cat amongst the pigeons! (sic)  Cars had been hired, and they drove off in all directions, to see how far the signal would reach. We even had cars over in England using their radios, to see how far it would reach. Blasting out music, with a 20 kilowatt transmitter, at the end of the road in Greenore, was not the best thing to do. Everything, and I mean everything, was picking up the signal. It interfered with other radio and television broadcasts, no other transmissions could be heard. We were no longer the most popular people in town, in fact we were drummed out of the local pub. ....  but now that the purpose of the radio ships had been leaked to the press we had reporters everywhere. We had them pestering us outside our compound, we even had a helicopter over the harbour, taking photographs. .... I saw my photograph, with one of the seamen, leaning over the ship's rail. It was front page on the Daily Express (I think), with the headline, 'The pirates are here'. Luckily it was the Irish edition ...."

There are few problems with Harry's account but it does fit in with the probable hypothesis that Allan Crawford misled Aodogán O'Rahilly and that he used Ronan O'Rahilly to sell his father on the idea, along with an infusion of cash which Aodogán was short of. All of Aodogán's Greenore plans had fizzled out for lack of money, and there was no way that Crawford thought that he was going to talk to him as a potential investor in a radio ship project! But that is what Crawford said on the BBC-TV 'Arena' show. Crawford lied.

So it is seems logical that Dundalk Engineering Works would have pulled its men off the job, and that they would then complain to Aodogán O'Rahilly. It also follows that Aodogán O'Rahilly would in turn have demanded an explanation from Harry Spencer, and there is no doubt whatsoever that Harry Spencer was in charge of both ships and the work carried out on them.

It also stands to reason that Aodogán O'Rahilly would then have told Harry to get out, and take the mv Mi Amigo with him, whether it was ready or not, and we know that it was not ready.

But someone decided to invite Granada to come into the compound and film the work going on at Greenore on board the mv Mi Amigo, because by then the mv Fredericia (Caroline) had already left. When that program aired it really angered the locals because it painted them and Greenore in a very bad light. However, there are features picked up on that show which no one else seems to have put together, and we will deal with them in a future edition of this Blog.


Here is one of the biggest problems that face wanna-be fakers of the past:
Just as there is no such thing as the perfect crime, there is no way to eradicate all evidence left behind in newspapers and film covering true events that surrounded the creation of Radio Caroline! Paul Rusling thought that he could, but he failed, miserably!
Paul Rusling papers over the events at Greenore and resorts to reviving that stupid story about 'Jimmy Ross', a person who never existed! Rusling then employs Oonagh Leigh to try to explain away events, but even though Oonagh Leigh does figure into the story, it is after Greenore and her involvement with Ronan O'Rahilly has also left behind its own timeline which Rusling cannot explain away.

In addition to all of that, we have some 'inside' information about the creation of 'The Scene' club, which like Ronan's "actors' studio" story, and his Georgie Fame story, and his so-called love of the Kennedys, all of that is 100% bogus. Not only can we prove this, but we WILL be proving this in future editions of this Blog.

If you bought Rusling's 'bible', you either had money to burn or it was sold to you under false pretenses! You should ask Paul Rusling for a return of your money!

What Ronan O'Rahilly said about his life in various audio and print comments that have been previously published on TV shows, and on radio programs; in newspapers; in magazines and quoted in books, are all similar to that script which the priest was told to read at his Mass.

All of it is a mixture of truth interspersed with fabricated mythology based upon lies and deceit which has also incorporated the absorption of biographical information taken from the lives of other people. All of it was then claimed by Ronan O'Rahilly as testimony of his own life. In other words, his words are rubbish!

Ronan O'Rahilly lied!

It is only by finding truthful accounts of the same incidents within the same time and space, and then by over-layering them, that a blurry picture of a truthful timeline begins to appear. The more substantiated details that we can find, the less of a blur we see, and more of the true picture then comes into focus.

Yesterday, taking one incident; that of Ronan O'Rahilly talking on camera in a 1991 BBC-TV show against the backdrop of a 1964 Granada-TV film, and citing an illustration of a PYE product, did we see a typical Ronan O'Rahilly lie exposed.

Typical?

Yes, typical, because there is a lot more of that kind of material to follow.

Ronan O'Rahilly was the paid "decoy duck", as one MP described him.

He was part of the Pye campaign to force a legislative change introducing licensed; sponsored; commercial radio broadcasting stations that would cover the British Isles. In 1964, Ronan O'Rahilly was a part of that plan.

Radio Caroline was never intended to be a permanent installation, it was to be a brief instrument used by the same Pressure Group back in the early Nineteen Fifties, which had forced the introduction of sponsored commercial television under the Independent Television Authority.

But on October 15, 1964, the Pye plan died when the Tories lost office and Labour took over under Harold Wilson. The Tories had been split. Some wanted to use the BBC in the way that it had been originally conceived under John Reith, and that was to cement British culture among all of its varied peoples into one homogeneous blob. Others wanted to sweep it all aside and introduce competing ideas using the formula of American-style free enterprise.

Labour was also split into two camps. One wanted to allow commercial expression under the BBC banner, but called something else, and the other side wanted to keep the non-commercial BBC and veer it further towards a strictly socialist point of view.

But Radio Caroline and the other commercial offshore stations had created a conundrum, because their arrival coincided with the results of a coming of age boom in British youth statistics. Before Radio Caroline ever uttered a peep, a man by the name of Jack Good had arrived on the scene, and he had sneaked his way on to the BBC-TV program schedule with a show called 'Six Five Special'. That show got the attention of the ITA stations and he was hired away to begin producing full-blown music shows for them. In turn, their productions led to Jack Good being snatched away by a U.S. television network to produce shows for them!

The Beatles owed none of their success to Ronan O'Rahilly or to Radio Caroline.

The Beatles were already big before the first test broadcast was made by Radio Caroline on Friday, March 27, 1964. But therein is the key to undermining the mythology spun by Ronan O'Rahilly about the start of Radio Caroline. That key is found in events that can be documented and proved, by using known and authenticated testimony that exists in other sources of information.

So in 1991, while Ronan O'Rahilly could laugh on BBC-TV as he recited his 'sponge finding' story, on page 260 of the 2002 book called 'Radio Man', there is an almost full page reproduction of a 1955 Pye leaflet for a 'Pye Marine Fish Finder'. It had the kind of 'eye' that Ronan O'Rahilly described, but it was not looking for sponges, but for shoals of fish!

That anecdotal story about fish is not unique.

Ronan O'Rahilly spun many more of these tales and most of them can be blown asunder with true accounts, and that is what we intend to do!

However, Ronan O'Rahilly was not smart enough to do this on his own, he had a scriptwriter named Ian Cowper Ross. While Paul Rusling fumbled around looking for a way to keep alive the 'Jimmy Ross' hoax which was created by Ian Cowper Ross; Rusling decided to lock on to a woman variously named as Oonagh Leigh. But Oonagh Leigh and Ronan O'Rahilly left behind an official paper trail, and those documents undermine and destroy Rustling's bogus storyline.

When all of this is synced with the legacies of Aodogán O'Rahilly and his company called Weatherwell Ltd., the real story about his son and his antics is revealed to be lie upon lie upon lie.

Aodogán's Latent Agenda, part 9 ....

Just a quick recap after some major restructuring of our interlocked web sites, and this is in order to refresh your memory as to where we are with our exposure of Aodogán O'Rahilly and his company called Weatherwell Ltd.

We will be adding a lot more to the Timeline about Weatherwell Ltd., because the development of that company is also intertwined with the outfitting of the mv Fredericia and mv Mi Amigo.

From evidence we have seen to date, and from everything we now know, several people appear to have rendered shaded versions of the truth to the point where their interpretation is both deliberately dishonest and untruthful. Some have also rendered what they knew in hindsight, but their perspective on past events has been colored by what they were told by other people, after the event!

However, as a catch-up (we will advance this storyline tomorrow in this Blog, and of course continuously in the Timeline); it seems that Aodogán O'Rahilly was not a willing participant in the outfitting of the two radio ships. We think that he was hoodwinked into cooperating with a plan that appears to have been presented to him by Allan James Crawford upon an introduction by Aodogán's son Ronan.

The evidence available seems to confirm that Ronan took Crawford, an Australian, to see his father in Dublin, and Crawford seems to have been well received. Not so with Englishman Harry Spencer. Aodogán was downright rude to him! The evidence points to the fact that Aodogán did not invite Harry to Greenore, but Allan James Crawford did.

Crawford is also the link to Alfred Nicholas Thomas from Wales and John Howard Gilman from England. Gilman is the link to George Saunders who was born in Wales but sounds very English. The Irish civil war for the total liberation of the island of Ireland was primarily directed at the English who controlled the British Crown who in turn still control the northern part of the island.

So whatever plan it was that Allan James Crawford pitched to Aodogán, it did not involve an English-orientated broadcasting operation with no benefit to Ireland. The intermediaries were two-fold: one was in Dallas, Texas whose surname McLendon reflected Celtic roots. Gordon McLendon had been working in Ireland prior to 1959 on an Irish radio and television broadcasting plan, and the other one was a Dutch firm named Wijsmuller.

Piecing together all of the various accounts we believe that both radio ships were originally bound for a dock on the Isle of Wight where Harry Spencer had his boat yard, and where Allan James Crawford had his original ship, the Trinity House Vessel Satellite, in dock.

But Thomas and Gilman had been part of a team involved with Charles Orr Stanley at Sheerness, where the saga of a con man's scheme for a station called GBOK aboard an old lightship called the Lady Dixon, had evaporated with his departure from the UK. That vessel, and the Pye owned facility adjoining the dock at Sheerness, appear to have been raided by GPO personnel. Crawford who had now brought Thomas and Gilman into his operation, was aware of that, and so Wijsmuller was told at the last minute not to go to the Isle of Wight, but to Greenore, Ireland. This is confirmed by Harry Spencer who has to change his plans.

Before that switch in destinations could be made for the mv Fredericia, Crawford first had to get an okay from Aodogán in Dublin, and for that he needed the help of Aodogán's son Ronan.

Linked with Crawford, behind the scenes after the demise of the Lady Dixon project, was Charles Orr Stanley who was a fellow Irishman like Aodogan, but from the Cork area. Both Irish locations (Cork and Dublin) were some distance from the properties owned by Weatherwell Ltd at Greenore, which were laying idle due to lack of investment capital to develop it.

So, as they say in Texas, "money talks and bullshit walks", and to secure the use of Greenore, a lot of what Texans call bullshit, and what the Irish call blarney, was involved in handing over money in exchange for rental use of Greenore. Neither Aodogan, nor his friends at Dundalk Engineering Works who were hired to carry out the work on both ships, seem to have known what was really going on.

Ronan knew, because Ronan was being paid. He had bounced around London looking for investors for his father's business, and this had brought him into contact with a lot of strange people  in the London underworld. People like Peter Rachman, and his bodyguard rent collector named Jimmy Houlihan. After Rachman died, Ronan O'Rahilly and Jimmy Houlihan stayed in touch, while there was still money to be conned out of suckers, somewhere.

But the true reason why the mv Fredericia was brought to Greenore to be followed by the mv Mi Amigo, did come to the attention of both the Dundalk Engineering Works who had been contracted by Englishman Harry Spencer. The workers downed tools and the owners complained to Aodogan who then sent for Harry Spencer.

Spencer showed up with Ronan and Aodogan tore into him - via Ronan!

Now that bits and pieces of the true story have been published. It is all a matter of knowing what is true and what is false.

The key author of the propaganda side is Ian Cowper Smith, and his account as given to Ray Clark in an interview dated Monday, February 18, 2013, and later published on the Pirate Radio Hall of Fame at 
http://www.offshoreradio.co.uk/odds79b.htm is smothered in lies and distortions of the truth. But even there, it is possible to pick through the rubble of obfuscation and piece together the true story from what is known from other sources.

Right now we are focusing on one point, but we will be addressing others, including an analysis of the Ray Clark interview mentioned above.

For instance, the story spun by Ronan O'Rahilly about the Harry Spencer mast on the Fredericia, is that it was designed to go through the keel to search for sponges. Well Pye who were funding all of this, had a product that looked for fish using a radar installation that was designed to be installed on ships. In fact, a lot of the claims made about Arthur Carrington are likewise really attributable to Pye.

Now listen and watch Ronan O'Rahilly try to spin a story about the mv Mi Amigo - NOT THE MV FREDERICIA - it had already left Greenore, but the footage in this BBC-TV film came from an old Granada show and their team left Greenore aboard the mv Mi Amigo. But what did the viewers know, and more importantly, what do the troll-anoraks know? So Ronan took his lies to the grave and the Church of Caroline now hold him up as their Messiah. This entire BBC-TV show of 1991 is riddled with FAKE information. Why after so many years? It seems that the true story is to be forever buried, but "they" did not reckon with "us"!


So by the time that the Mi Amigo arrived at Greenore, it seems that Harry Spencer had to work fast, too fast, because Aodogan wanted those ships to be gone from Greenore! When the Mi Amigo left, it did so with such speed that it had to quickly put into Falmouth for instant repairs to the mast.
Why would Aodogan be so upset and annoyed?

Because his son Ronan had deceived him into thinking that Ronan was advancing the business plan of Weatherwell Ltd at Greenore, but instead he was endangering that plan with a bribe to allow another plan to go ahead that would anger the British Crown.

This was annoying to Aodogan, because his business plan depended upon both the injection of new capital, and cooperation by the British Crown!

The entire fiasco at Greenore is surrounded in lies and deceit, but so is the so-called story spun by Ian Cowper Ross as told to Ray Clark. The actual story, the true story of Radio Caroline bares little if any resemblance to anything you have ever read before!
