INTRODUCTION

Greenore, Ireland: 1952-1959, part 2 ....

When 1953 rolled around, the story at Greenore was one of doom and gloom. Everything had closed down. Although the ferry had stopped transporting passengers long ago, a little used cargo service had remained in place. Now that was gone along with the trains that once went North and on to those counties still under the sovereignty of the British Crown, and the train service that went West to Dundalk which had once been the home of a large railway engineering works facility.

The jobs had also gone with their employers, and it is not too difficult to imagine what a dismal place Greenore was in 1953. The hotel remained open, but not for long. Now it was up for sale with its "seven-day licensed refreshment room".  The 18-hole golf course was also in danger of disappearing under the autioneer's hammer.

On April 16, 1954, the local press reported that Weatherwell Limited had bought the former train station and other facilities at Greenore. Their plan was to demolish the existing buildings and erect a modern factory with machinery, and then begin manufacturing plaster board and plaster. [See this Blog for our editorial post dated 9/10/2020].

Unfortunately, that promise was to linger on until its extinction, but that was to be yet one more disappointment a few years away. Meanwhile, Aodogán O'Rahilly remained in the Dublin area at the location of his home and the original Weatherwell company factory.

On September 17, 1954, Weatherwell Ltd., did not own the entire property at Greenore, and consequently the Hotel and its adjoining Golf Course were now being  placed on the auction block.

From our bookshelf: a horrific and hidden story that exposes the British Crown (that created the GPO back in the year 1660 to censor communication), which enslaved White people in order to settle their colonies! They were the Crown's blueprint to also turn Black people into slaves!

Here is a book you should read because it exposes acts by the Royal Family of Belgium, to the horrors of slavery in Africa. It is exposed in part by one of the early leaders who tried to liberate Ireland from the slavery imposed on Ireland by the British Crown!
