1964: Ike says "NO" to LBJ ....

LBJ was first "inaugurated" on a jet parked at a Dallas airfield, after the previous president had part of his head blown off. So the Vice-President became President for the remainder of the term won by John F. Kennedy. When it came to his own election in 1964, he could not ask the previous president to attend and validate a transfer of power, so he asked the president before John F. Kennedy. That was President Eisenhower, and he refused, in a very polite manner!
