UPDATED, REVISED AND EXPANDED 3/28/2020 This is where my Review of Rusling's book now resumes and it connects with the preamble that I have been creating over the last few days. This is a very, very complex story that stretches over decades. I am referring to an investigation into the origins of Radio Caroline (1964-1967), and not only to the untangling of Paul Rusling's plagiarized book. Rusling has turned a story that was already complicated, into a tangled web of multiple strands of deceit which stretches back over a long period of time! There are two different storylines involved, and now I am bringing them together. The first storyline involves the true events that led to the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964, and so far, no one has uncovered enough of the details in order to explain who, what, why, when and how Radio Caroline came into existence. To show his total ignorance due to his inability to understand the circumstances and events that led to its creation, on page 497 of his 'bible' with a total of 508 pages of mush, this is what Rusling wrote: "Few have tried so hard to denigrate the Radio Caroline name and the reputation of Ronan O'Rahilly, as a small group that claims the original Radio Caroline finished in Autumn 1964 when the original backers lost interest, once Harold Wilson came to power." There is no doubt that the "small group" that Rusling refers to is 'The Trio'. Rusling has made it known that he does not read history books and that he does not perform his own research. He obviously does not attempt to verify the rubbish that he uses to fleece his paying customers The quotation on page 497 is an example of nonsense that is clearly aimed at 'The Trio', and as you will learn, Paul Rusling has walked into a trap of his own making. To justify his claims that he ascribes to a "small group", Paul Rusling wrote: "It's true that some 'original backers such as CO Stanley, of the Pye group and William Harvey of the BPB dropped out at that time but they were small investors and never key players." (sic) It would have been helpful if Rusling could even get names right, but he can't, as his statement (above) plainly shows. However, his biggest problem is a total lack of comprehension. A total lack of education in the very subject that he is trying to teach others - for pay! What a con-artist Rusling is! I have seen the textual trail that leads from the 'Caroline Investigation' newsletter into Rusling's computer, and I have seen the email correspondence between the editor of that newsletter and Paul Rusling. Because Rusling was part of the Malcolm Smith team that caused Garry Stevens to suddenly turn against 'The Trio' and back Malcolm Smith, Paul Rusling felt the pressure to rush into print-on-demand as fast as possible with his book of nonsense. It is nonsense because it does makes sense, and it does not make sense because Rusling does not understand how and why Radio Caroline was created and who engaged Ronan O'Rahilly to spin misinformation. So when Rusling saw some data that did not fit in with the mythology to which he had been exposed, he dismissed it out of hand. These doyens of original obfuscation were led by Ronan O'Rahilly. But since O'Rahilly was paid for his services to paper-over a mystery and turn a complex story into a tale for simpletons, I am wondering how much of the true story Ronan O'Rahilly actually knew? After all, his job was to spin a tale, not to engage in deep political machinations and become a part of the original plot, because clearly Ronan O'Rahilly was out of his depth. One reason for the mystery surrounding the creation of Radio Caroline is that the actual events were intentionally obscured, and I don't mean by one person or even by one fake storyline. I mean that several people have been involved at muddying the waters concerning actual events because they did their best not to leave a paper trail. Now add to that a layer of intentional obfuscation. One of the those people hired in the early days included Ronan O'Rahilly. His job was to make sure that no one came to understand the true story behind the creation of Radio Caroline. To do this, O'Rahilly was given assistance in the person of Ian Cowper Ross who served as a scriptwriter to O'Rahilly, and as the years went by he began to appear on the stage as a spin-master in his own right. The fact that it has been necessary to keep this deception going, decades after the demise of Radio Caroline, shows that whatever was being concealed back in 1964, is being deliberately concealed today. This fact alone shows that this has never, ever been a story about pop music or 'pirate radio stations' playing pop music for pop music starved teenagers. This is something much deeper than that, but that is the mythology that is still being perpetuated with the help of a subset of people engaged in the vanity of self-promotion. These people had nothing whatsoever to do with actual events that led up to the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964, and by 'events' I mean the political and financial events. Some members of this subset were hired to run aspects of the original twin Radio Caroline stations, but their knowledge was limited to their own experiences. Unfortunately for them, they collided with another group who jumped onto the bandwagon of self-puffery, and out of sheer vanity they decided to tell everyone the "true story" about which they actually had no knowledge. So this lot of blockheads absorbed the original misinformation to which they had been exposed, and then they added their own spin, and all of that led to more confusion. These people are the real culprits behind the ongoing deception, and now leading the pack is Paul Rusling. These people became a cult of self-appointed "experts" who have regularly appeared on radio, television and in the press regaling everyone with their "inside" information. It is a process of obfuscation that is still going on, because after each bogus "revelation" or bogus "recall" of events, another layer of deception is added to the original stockpile of fables. As part of that ongoing process we have now witnessed the recent publication of two new major feature stories which have appeared in the 'Mirror' and 'Sun' newspapers. Well that is the surface storyline, the first storyline that 'everyone knows', but what 'everyone knows' is actually a lot of nothing, because the real storyline has never been revealed. Until now. This brings me to the second storyline, which is the real storyline, and the people who have been trying to uncover it are the people that I now refer to as 'The Trio'. My reason for referring to them as a group is because the trolls who have emerged from the Garry Stevens' Forum in support of Rusling and Smith, have tried to create the impression that only one individual is opposing them. Rusling and Smith have also pushed the message that this same individual has no credible track record as an investigative journalist, and after every attempt to point these detractors to publications and broadcasts that contradict their claims, they have chosen to ignore the evidence and repeat their fake propaganda. Therefore, rather than play their silly games I am ignoring their emails which they also send to me via their cult-like "followers". You may well ask: then why bother with Paul Rusling and his 'bible'? The answer is that Paul Rusling stole intellectual research material from 'The Trio' and then repackaged it. Why? To support a commercial venture that benefits a tiny licensed UK radio station that calls itself 'Radio Caroline', as well as a rusting hulk called 'Ross Revenge'. Their project requires volunteer support, and that support comes from the creation of mythology that Rusling has provided and which is then further amplified by mainstream newspapers such as the 'Mirror' and 'Sun'. Rusling, Smith and Stevens have created a package of deceit aimed at drowning out the investigation into the real story behind the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964. They were aided in their quest by two events: one was a book, and the other one was a lecture. The cover of the book that halted their investigation is pictured to the left. Inside this book of 356 pages is a single paragraph of note, and in appears on page 276. This book called 'Radio Man' contradicted everything that the 'The Trio' thought that they knew about the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964. This book is not just a biography about Charles Orr Stanley and the Pye Group of companies that he built, it is also a book of further obfuscation about both Stanley and Pye. 'Radio Man' was authored by a reputable journalist who in turn was supported by a person had previously published technical articles about electronics and the history of the Pye group of companies. Furthermore, the motivating force behind the creation of this book is the grandson, and son of the principal characters who formed the basis for the book itself, and it was published by the prestigious Institute for Electrical Engineers (which no longer exists under that name.) In no way can that book be compared with the do-it-yourself authorship of Paul Rusling's 'bible' which lacks even a surface credibility. However, behind the creation of 'Radio Man' is another dark secret which in one sense goes to the reason why the book started off as a project to memorialize C. O. Stanley and his son John Stanley. Before this book was brought into existence there was no overall history of the Pye Group of companies, and part of the reason for that is that those companies were snuffed out by the Philips Group based in Holland. For whatever the reason, and I don't know the reason, and neither does Nicholas Stanley who commissioned 'Radio Man': the official company archives of the Pye Group of companies appear to have been destroyed. However, when Nicholas Stanley came into possession of his father's and his grandfather's own documents relating to the Pye Group activities, he was able to turn over to Mark Frankland who wrote the manuscript, and to Gordon Bussey who assisted him with technical details; a vast amount of information which was then relegated to over forty bankers boxes. These boxes were then put into storage. But that is not all that Nicholas Stanley gave Mark Frankland to work with, because the most important element from the standpoint of the ongoing investigation by 'The Trio' into the origins of Radio Caroline, was an interview that was personally conducted by Nicholas Stanley. This is information that Nicholas Stanley did his best to conceal from 'The Trio', as you will now begin to learn for the first time because it is the key to unlocking a mystery into the origins of Radio Caroline. Without this 'key' it is impossible to understand what happened back in the years 1962 and 1963 when the elements that gave birth to Radio Caroline in 1964, all came together for the first time Now that Paul Rusling has "played his hand" by publishing his plagiarized work as a scrambled pile of words that tell the reader nothing, but which do instill even more confusion, it is possible for the first time in public to reveal what this 'key' is, and why it is so important to an understanding of the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964. For this we need to go back in time to the year 2014 and a visit to a museum in the Scottish Kingdom of Fife on Saturday, October 25 of that year. It was exposure to one lone paragraph in that entire book called 'Radio Man' which jerked the rug from underneath a prepared lecture due to be delivered by Mervyn Hagger (shown right). His audience were expecting to hear the story about the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964, but instead they heard an apology from Mervyn Hagger. Up until that moment in time, 'The Trio' had concluded that the history of Radio Caroline (1964-1967) was settled, because there seemed to be some sort of continual thread following the person of Ronan O'Rahilly, although that thread was not a continuous strand because it stopped and started for various lengths of time after 1967. However, providing that the foundation for the accepted story about the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964 is not questioned, then the story about Ronan O'Rahilly as its creator can still be accepted as being true, although various aspects of that story are already proven to be untrue. But without that interpretative foundation at all. There is no continuation. Instead, there are a number of groups who have used the name 'Radio Caroline' to describe their own unrelated ventures. But even then, the story of offshore radio between the years 1964 and 1967 as heard in the British Isles is far from settled. Problems about the authenticity of information relating to that period and those events have also arisen, such as the time when Don Pierson inexplicably went into 'quiet orbit' when asked during an audio interview about the involvement of U.S. Senator John Tower (left) with Radio England and Britain Radio. That subject, 'The Trio' came to learn, was "off limits" to them, if they wanted to maintain their friendship and business relationship with Don Pierson; but it was not off limits years later to a friend of 'The Trio' who lived in Norway and who kept resurrecting that same question. For some reason this friend had an obsession with the story behind one of Don Pierson's offshore radio ships. It was called 'Olga Patricia' and this Norwegian kept on asking that same question over and over again, and that question went all the way back to U.S. Senator John Tower and his involvement with the 'Olga Patricia'. A little background information: Mervyn Hagger was in the USA when the 'Watergate Hearings' had taken place in 1973 and they transfixed the Nation, because its population followed the gavel-to-gavel investigation on both 'live' television and radio. Those Hearings eventually brought about the resignation of President Nixon in 1974, and then, just a short time later in 1975, the Church Committee of which John Tower was a Co-Chair, began investigating the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), again on 'live' television. On May 9, 1975, CIA Director William Colby was in the hot seat and the subject was covert operations including CIA assassination projects. Up until that moment in 2014, 'The Trio' had documented the history of offshore broadcasting during the 1960s that targeted the British Isles. Again, until that moment in time it seemed that it was a story about American money and know-how which centered around the person of Don Pierson who lived in Eastland, Texas. After 2014 it became apparent that Don Pierson had fallen for the mythology spun by Ronan O'Rahilly, and it revealed a tragic story that had disastrous consequences for both Don Pierson, and his Texas investors. Don Pierson had not only become involved with 'The Trio' in a revival project based upon his 1965 station that became known as 'Wonderful Radio London'; but he had also turned over to 'The Trio' his financial and legal files from the Nineteen Sixties. 'The Trio' had pushed ahead over the years by documenting in a variety of publications, everything that they knew about the commercial side of American offshore broadcasting to the British Isles. Now we move ahead after 1980 when Mervyn Hagger began working with Don Pierson, first on a publishing venture, and then on a revival of Radio London. Because Don Pierson had previously been involved in a free port venture in Haiti (see http://foundthreads.com/12.html ) which involved the regimes of 'Papa Doc' and his son, and which they had expropriated, Don Pierson was still trying to get compensation with the help of the U.S. Government. By then William Colby had 'retired' as head of the CIA and so Don Pierson hired him as an attorney to deal with his claims against Haiti. Therefore, in one sense, it was no surprise when the door to the Texas publishing office opened and Mervyn Hagger found himself shaking hands with Bill Colby. In a sense it was interesting event, but not a major event, and time passed by. Then came the verboten interview with Don Pierson and his reaction to the question about John Tower. This was followed by the drip, drip, drip question from the friend in Norway. Those questions went unresolved and no follow-up ensued. But one day, the friend in Norway who had a major interest as a hobby in the history of Don Pierson's ship called 'Olga Patricia', received an unsolicited email from someone he had never heard of in Canada. As it turned out, that person had both an interest in firearms and in the assassination conspiracy theories involving John F. Kennedy. This Canadian correspondent sent to the Norwegian friend an email attachment from declassified CIA archives that revealed the involvement of the Olga Patricia in a covert war led by U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, who was the brother of the President John F. Kennedy. The declassified CIA document sent to the Norwegian and then to 'The Trio' , related to the same covert action which caused Bill Weaver to take the Mi Amigo to Galveston Island in Texas. That is the ship that Ronan O'Rahilly went to see in June 1963 on behalf of Allan James Crawford. But there is an interesting wrinkle in O'Rahilly's story. First of all the only reason we know about O'Rahilly's visit: who he saw, and what he did, is because of Bill Weaver and Glenn Callison. Both men were both involved with Radio Nord, and both men met Mervyn Hagger and told him about O'Rahilly's visit. But that visit by Ronan O'Rahilly coincided with the visit to the Republic of Ireland by a person who Ronan O'Rahilly later claimed was a major influence in his life. Therefore I therefore find an amazing contradiction in O'Rahilly's behavior: because when JFK made his visit to Ireland, O'Rahilly seems to have ignored it. In fact, the visit of JFK took place around the same time that O'Rahilly made his secret trip to Texas on behalf of Allan Crawford. Back in the days when Ronan O'Rahilly was in charge of the thought processes running through own his brain, O'Rahilly began to claim a big admiration for John F. Kennedy, and from this supposed admiration came the mythology that he had named Radio Caroline after JFK's little daughter Caroline. We now know that is sheer rubbish, but then we also know that O'Rahilly's claim to almost worship the ground that the Kennedys walked upon, is also sheer rubbish. Let us remember that President Kennedy made a visit to the Republic of Ireland at about the time that Ronan O'Rahilly was in London, and then took off for Galveston via Houston via Idlewild (New York) from Heathrow, and yet, so far, I have not found any mention by O'Rahilly of that visit by Kennedy. O'Rahilly would not get another opportunity to shake hands with John F. Kennedy on the soil of Ireland or anywhere else, because later that same year, JFK was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas. Swirling around all of this was the secret CIA war that JFK's brother had been running out of his office to topple Fidel Castro; while his brother had been claiming in public, that after the 1961 abortive 'Bay of Pigs' invasion of Cuba by CIA interests and Cuban expats that this secret war against Cuba had been brought to a halt. But JFK lied, because his brother Bobby was still in command of a CIA 'Augmented' faction that was attacking Cuba and specifically targeting Fidel Castro. Now, this is where things get really messy, because not only did Bill Weaver bring the Bon Jour, renamed Magda Maria, renamed Mi Amigo from Europe to Galveston Island; he did so upon request of RFK as part of the Kennedy's continuing secret war against Cuba. But, when it was discovered that the Mi Amigo was too small for its intended use, the ship later used by Don Pierson and called 'Olga Patricia', was used instead. Where did RFK retrieve the Olga Patricia from? The answer is a USAF 'pen' in South Miami which adjoined a huge CIA base disguised as a research operation, that was located on the campus of the University of Southern Miami. The reason why it was under the control of the U.S. Air Force, is because it was used to launch helium balloons carrying propaganda materials to be dropped on Cuba. It is ironic that the CIA facility was based on the vacated area once used a helium storage operation because the company under contract to work on the Olga Patricia, was the same company that outfitted the Communicator with helium balloons. That was during early broadcasts by the offshore radio station called Laser in which Paul Rusling had become involved. Rusling loves to shout about that venture as well in his earlier publications, but of course, like his 'bible', Rusling's version of events have to be carefully re-examined. But back to JFK and RFK and their new invasion of Cuba. It was scheduled for December 1, 1963, and it would have followed a coup d'etat and the toppling of Fidel Castro. But then on November 22, 1963, JFK was killed in Dallas. Then the person who was fingered as his assassin was conveniently disposed of when he was shot in plain sight while surrounded by the press in the underground garage of the Dallas Police Department. At that moment both the Mi Amigo and Olga Patricia became a thorn in the side of both RFK and the CIA's token minders. The Mi Amigo was then sent back to Europe, and if the Olga Patricia had not been diverted to other uses, it is possible that the Olga Patricia could have become the ship that served as the base for Radio Caroline, rather than the motor vessel 'Fredericia'. However, after Don Pierson finished with the ship as the home of Radio England and Britain Radio, the Olga Patricia, minus its radio equipment, returned to raiding the island of Cuba! That ship was even denounced as a CIA ship by Fidel Castro personally during a long speech broadcast by Radio Havana. But all of that is another part of the story that Paul Rusling won't tell you, because it spoils his fake narrative. Clearly I have strayed too far away from the story behind the story of that book 'Radio Man' which gummed everything up in 2014, and because that is a subject all by itself, it will have to wait until tomorrow and the next installment of my blog. Note: I have edited my original version of this blog.
