So far mass media has banged the drum about pop music and offshore 'pirate radio' to such an extent that it is now firmly entrenched that this is the story of so-called 'free radio' in the Sixties. From the demise of 'Radio Caroline' after the 1967 Marine Offences Act, and especially after 1990 when Ian Cowper Ross published 'Rocking the Boat', a whole industry of fanaticism has taken off that worships anything to do with broadcasting from offshore. After noticing a thread on the Garry Stevens' Blog called 'Offshore Radio Cooks - Name the Best and Worst'! It seems as if the anoraks are now scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas, and that thread reminded me of this scene from a Monty Python movie .... Comments are closed.
