On January 17, 1961, President Eisenhower in his final address to the U.S. nation warned viewers about the dangers of the Military Industrial Complex. It had been created in response to the Cold War which followed on from the nuclear conclusion of World War II. Of course the Internet owes its foundational existence to the academic aspects of the Military Industrial Complex, but in today's world nothing, especially the Military Industrial Complex, could function without oil. That is the vital ingredient that makes everything in today's world function. Whoever controls the oil supply ultimately controls everything else, and that once included the political career of Lyndon Baines Johnson. [Note: This video has been edited by us to include an excerpt from the introduction to the last television address by President Eisenhower. It then quickly moves on to that now often cited portion of his speech in which he drew attention to the ad hoc activities of academia and industry who were working together in secrecy for the benefit of the U.S. Armed Forces, and all deriving their funding from U.S. taxpayers via the U.S. Treasury.]
